    Lookin' for the best price?
Looks like it's a brown saddle for my car. They are shot. Cracks and such
Anyone have the experience of re-doing (2) Buckets and rear bench and back rest in the past? Who has the best price?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Legendary currently has a 25% off sale on most of their product. I've used them before & very happy. I just ordered a set of interior door panels for my own car.
Bucket seats are not too difficult, just make sure you take your time. You will probably need new foam & you may need to repair the springs. I took the easy route & replaced the springs with new. Tracks are also available new.
Go to: www.buickperformance.com & check the site for seat recovering.

New foam buns are HIGHLY suggested . Do not get the lesser expensive ones . Order the American Cushion foams (buns) . They are a few bucks more but they are MUCH MUCH better and have a mesh backing unlike the lesser. If you need these I can send them to you . The A-body 68-72 buns are $205.00 + shipping. That is for the left and right seats bottoms and back rests.

    Hi Steve and Sticher,

Thanks for the help. Thanks to a V8 Buick post, (Instantaneous response!) I got my rear package deck in this weekend! Yahoo!
I had the NEW year one deck sitting in the garage for a few months.
You guys probably know this but in order to put that thing in I had to remove the original rear seat and back rest. Again Thanks V8 Buick, I could not figure for the life of me how to remove that back rest, only to find out to use a 7/16wrench @ the bottom. LOL Duh? So here I am with the rear bench type seat out and the back rest out. I put them in the garage for now. As I said the rear deck package (Cardboard) is now installed and looks good!

    Questions: Are Buns the foam?

I've looked at these pages for restoring my bucket seats, Etc, also by George Nenadovich:

    http://www.buickperformance.com/bs.htm

And our beloved V8 Buick search blog states:
    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=135204&highlight=bucket+seat+skins

There is a mention of Lengendary here also.
    Also, Who is OPGI?

Thanks and any more suggestions, Info will be digested to make a good decision in the future. Cause it's cold out there! And Rainy also....

Legendary is one of two interior manufacturers. They offer product at the retail level. The second manufacturer is PUI that offers to the wholesale market only.
About everyone else I've come across is simply reselling product from either of the two.

The bucket seat foams are called the buns . ........The difference between the two manufactures is that Legendary sells to the retail customers where PUI does not . I am a dealer for both . I use Legendary most often because of the quality and yes they are a bit more expensive but again , well worth it. In fact , I just completed a complete interior for a 69 GS350 and the customer had boughten a PUI kit and I talked him into the Legendary kit . After the Legendary kit was installed I held up the PUI kit to the now completed Legendary kit and he was amazed on the feel alone of the firmer vinyl and the "railroad track" embossing was much more crisp and defined .

I just put an EMAIL in for a catalog to Legendary to be sent.
Looks like I saw the skins for front buckets seats, but I haven't pulled the fronts out of the car yet. Not sure which ones though in Legendary.
See below pictures of my rear, seats.

Last time I had the fronts out was to change the carpet I got from an old Skylark in the junk yard in Newark, Ca. about fifteen-twenty years ago as the heater core was leaking onto the passenger side carpet and ruined the carpet. Much to my amazement while changing the carpet out I found a lost and hidden Union Card with a date to vote for a Union person between the sound stuff and the sheet metal. I'm sure someone threw it in while on the line in 1971, in Fremont, Ca. I put the card back in, after I restored/ replaced the carpet. It's still hidden ithe bowels of the GS.

Anyway, I do have the rear seating out now, and this entire car has been a project for years and/ on going. The seats for the rear are in the garage. I'd imagine to get these seatings done, I may have to do the rears first, since they are out. I like driving it this way, LOL No lie, It's different.

Stitcher, The $205.00 you mention are for buns that would complete the rear?
Then I would have to buy skins also? The tool in George's article, springs or whatever those metal things are need bought.

Steve, Never heard of PUI, But I'll look them up. PUI Hmmmmmm.

    Thanks

Actually the buns are for the front buckets . The rear seat gets sheets of foam . I always strip the seat frames down to the springs and send them out for powder coating . The powder coating for the fronts and rears are $200.00 and that gives you a quality base to start with and a great looking and lasting finish. The rears get 1"firm on bottom and 1"soft as top layer. I can save you a few bucks on the Legendary covers and the foam,(buns). I offer a 5% discount off the catalog price.

i did my seats, buckets & rear. easy to do. take pictures at various steps of cover removal & before u start to remove the hogrings.
buy yourself a good pair of nippers to cut the old hog rings and a pair of anglesd hogring installation pliers.
for the rear seats, unless a family of mice has chewed/nested the cotton padding, all u should have to do is install the new covers for the seat & seat back. springs & sponge pad s/b okay. be sure to warm the covers well, before installing to remove wringles. place the cover in a pillowcase & toss in the dryer for a few minutes. voila - no wrinkles.
for the buckets, same procedure applies. as stated in previous responses, it would be wise to install new seat base springs. u may need to do the seat buns also.
new covers DO NOT come with the spring steel wires that are pocketed in the perimeter of the old covers. u need to install them in the new covers.
    just take your time.

    Update:

    Hi Gerry, Steve, Stitcher,

Well I got a response from Legendary and PUI sources via EMAIL.

    PUI:

I do make the covers in question, however you would need to go through one of my distributors to purchase them. There is a dealer list on the website. My part # for the rear seat would be 71US42C.

    Legendary:

    My note:

    Dear Sirs,
I am interested in your product for my rear seat and back rest for my 1971 Buick Gran Sport (GS). Attached pictures....
I believe this is the product you have for sale and price for this skin? I intend to have possibly a professional install them. Enclosed you will find pictures of my seating. Please let me know if this would be the product I would need. EMAIL works fine.

Response: that would be the correct cover needed 71 SKYLARK/GRAN SPORT COUPE REAR BENCH - SADDLE
AA71GK00048690G and those are 25% off. On sale for $126.00.

Looks like I will go w/ a purchase/ from Legendary as Stitcher said.
I will follow through w/ attempting to do it myself GStewart and will need to purchase the items in the future as you mentioned. I will take my time. I can see this being a neat project. Steve Craig, Thanks also for the info on 25% off, Etc.
I probably won't complete this project (Rear seating) till Spring 2009, the way things are going here, XMAS and all.

Any other opinions/ suggestions/ do's and don'ts welcome as Interiors are not my Forte' or am I savy on this subject.

    Much Thanks and Happy Holidays
    Scott

Only problems I have with Legendary is the material does not tuck under the seat tracks where they attach to the seat in the back as original. The material is too short here and hangs down over the back of the seat track and is unsightly. Stitcher ever notice this? Also I have the same 71 color and Buick officially called it Dark Saddle and Legendaries color is a more generic saddle the same I have seen in some hot rods. The color is not correct. I have gotten samples of Fabric from a dealer in fabrics and the color looks much closer. Maybe legendary could make a set if I supplied them with correct material? Any Idea how many yard it takes to make full interior? Two types of material anyway. Smooth and perforated.

Actually , that flap that hangs down that you are refering to needs to be tucked under the seat track . You have to loosen the seat track bolts and tuck the material between the track and frame then retighten the bolts . As far as how much material you will need for the seats , you will need for buckets 6 yards and 2.5 yards of the perforated . This will do front and
rear. I do know that Legendary will in fact stitch up the covers in your material but will probably take 8 - 10 weeks maybe longer . Youwill have to call them and see.

Yes Buckets. Thanks for the answers on that stuff Stitcher. I will ahve to see if I can tuck material under tracks. I may change now anyway. Funny how that saddle color fades over time to completly different colors for the two materials. Strange.

I got my Legendary package to re-do my rear seats yesterday via MAIL.

I'll open it next week to see what I have.
It's a XMAS gift from my wife.

Not sure when I'll start to do the seats. It's a bit cold here right now.

The weather was 61 Degrees today, so Today I started the new skins.

Well, Working on stretching/ getting the SaddleSeat (Rear back section in).
In the garage. Coming along good.

Hope the rear seat makes the seat pad stretch. The bottom welded section looks good. Just need some Hog Nose clips and the tool.
I saw it @ the local Ace hardware store. Those HogNose Clips are different sizes. Looks like mine is the smaller of em'

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Gerry,

I saw the rear perimeter (Metal thingy) you mentioned. I've been saving it as you said.

I just got the back skin on.
    Yahoo!

    Not bad! I like it.
Just taking my time. Man is this gonna look good.

Also I did the warm water you mentioned SB. Not much rust.
I USED THE OLD PADDING, LOOKS and feels Plush, No problem. I llike it!

I may as well mention I did manage to cut myself, LOL
Cut is not bad stretching to the one corner end on the barb, or whatever that metal is that's welded and cut. (Spring stuff)

Interesting note the old skin has writing on it.
Not sure if it is important there is a a square stamp!
    I love surprises!

May as well mention the stamp (BACK REST 1971 BUICK GS):

    FIRESTONE PN#9817842R Then a 68
    Dated 4/24/71

I think I may cut the square ink stamp out and hide it in the springs of the rear seat.
    It's kind of historical.
What do you think? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Stitcher,

Where can I get the rear seat bun?
You mentioned American Cushion foams/ (buns)?
    I'll try a search...

I'd prefer not to use the rear foam as you mentioned above, it has two cracks in the foam.
Looks like crap, maybe I should get a picture, LOL

I got the rear seat/ old skin off now.
I mounted the rear backrest, Looks excellent!
    Legendary did a good job.

    Next weekend, I'll do more.

    Thanks,
    Scott
