So I've been pondering the idea of making my 72 gs a gsx...What do you guys think?

I talked about this a lil bit in my intro. My father said our collection was getting too big. He said if anything went, he wouldnt mind my buick leaving. Grr. I'm 24 now, I got this car when I turned 16. My first car to ever drag race...even won a few car shows with "unrestored orignal" class. It has a lot of sentimental value and I said I'd never sell it...but he's made me an offer

    sell the buick and get:

    1. 69 firebird. good straight body car...we're 2nd owners. it's white with blue interior..even has bolt on ac. it wants to be a TRANS AM!

    2. w31. needs resto. have the parts to fix it. i remember being a lil kid, wanting this car soooooooooo bad. engine and trans is blown, but we have the original to fix it. it played bracket car for a long time.

    3. dad will help me find a judge. i'ma sucker for judges. carousel red..or orbit orange ahhh :Brow: i've seen some of you guys @ psmcd. sweet sweet judge's.

    i'm kind of stuck..any opinions?

basically, i've got money to burn. either way, i'm going to end up spending the same on either car. we are obsessive, i more so than dad. one of those that cleans vents with a toothbrush. lol. i just always promised myself i wouldnt sell the gs.

the decisions a 24 year old girl hasta deal with!

Keep the buick and buy all three of the others as time permits ( I have 12 cars ) why restrict your life to one car!!! :Brow:

    Ken

PS: NEVER sell it you will regret it :eek2: it has all your memories in it good and bad, because when you go looking for the same car in 10 years you will pay a lot more than what you will get for it

I say keep the buick, throw a 455 in it and give it the GSX package which includes/ front and rear spoilers/stripes. Or you could even keep the 350 buick motor, Bill M. has one w/ over 1000 HP and another guy has a 350 w/ 500 HP and it's modded good but yet still mild. Either way, you can't go wrong. And sentimental value is priceless, once you sell the car, it won't be long and you will be wantin' it back asap. My .002 cents worth!

that's the way i feel, too. i wanna keep it.

i want a 455 and some other things. poor buick, it wont spin a tire on a wet floor in the shop! we joke that it's because the people that had it were so old it never got the soot blown out of it. i've tried. i promise.

i'd really like to make it a manual, but that's a whole 'nother story! i think i'll just wait on the 69 fb to be a TA to play with a manual. i mean i drive one everyday, but there's nothing like shifting some muscle!

As long as the other cars your father has aren't going anywhere, I'd transform the GS into a GSX. Now, if he was going to sell them I'd probably think more drastically on getting them. Once you get the performance problem on the GS figured out, you'll have alot more fun with it. Plus, you'll regret selling it. Maybe not now, but months down the road. Been there, done that.

    Hey suicide,

    got a "real" name?

We are all on a first name basis here. We like the personal touch. (I use the term "touch" very lightly too) :eek2:

I was checking out your avatar. That is my favorite year Z28. I'm thinking 73 or 74.

    Keep the Buick!
Put the GSX spoilers on it, paint it carousel red, black GSX stripes, with the yellow pinstripes, and have fun telling people 'It's NOT a GTO'
On the other hand, white with blue T/A stripes would look cool too!
Welcome to the board! I like your style :TU:

I wouldn't sell the car. When I was 24 I almost sold my 71 stage 1 to pay for an engagement ring. Long story but we broke up and luckily the car stayed in the garage. That was 13 years ago, I've owned this car since I was 17 and it is part of the family now (20 years!).

Sometimes I hate it but 99% of the time I love that car, I grew up in it.

If you clone it into a GSX don't do anything that is not reversible. Maybe find an extra trunklid and put it away should you ever wish to return it to stock.

And as for values, some of the cars you mentioned are worth some coin, why not put that into your car?? Personally I'd simply repaint it and drop in a 455 and go have some fun.

    always keep your first car
at least, if it's a good car, if you get an '86 Civic or something, burn it... but if it's a classic you should keep it
you'll regret it if you don't, maybe not now, maybe not in a year, but somewhere down the road you'll regret it

thanks..i pretty much already had my mind made up, but i needed some back up.

i called my dad this morning and talked to him a bit. i told him that since, my vacation was screwed (we were going to cruisin the coast #10 in gulf port, but since there is no gulf port..err) i'd just come home and start taking stuff off the buick.

he was like "WHAT! you cant do that, my car is in the shop."
i said, "ok, then we'll move your car out. just tell those lil boys that work for you to MOVE."
he said something like, "but i've been wanting to work on my car..i said then i'll work on your car and pull it apart!"

    his car--is a nova...watch out psmcd's we're coming back..maybe next year with a yenko deuce. :3gears:

that's a 74 z28 type lt. it has 20k real miles..and most of those were aquired drag racing. we've been to psmcd with that car a few times. it's the only one we have that fits the criteria...but that's about to change with the nova. anyway, that car has been around almost as long as i have. before i raced, i won a few "unrestored orignals" with it, too. crazy, even has some factory paint mess ups.

it's big and heavy..seems like it takes 3 days to move off the line. hence..the nova.

which one of ya'll pm-ed me? i didnt save the name..do it again please. thanks!

ok so here's you guys job: i need to outsmart my dad with some gsx knowledge. i know some basics, but not down to the nitty gritty. books, websites..you name it. tell me. :Brow:

as far as painting it carousel red and stripes..my dad's already tried to play that on me. he told me along time ago that he has some judge stencils/decals..that no one would know the difference.
