This has been asked many times over the years. I have heard it said many times that no one really knows, it could be that the guy on the assembly line put in what he had or wanted to. I would just put in what i thought looked the best. just my 2 cents

So would 69 Verde green with black interior car have a solid white ball?

You could have any color ball you wanted on a Buick as long as it was black. Non console cars got a black ball with a pattern. Consolette cars got a plain one. The directions were on the consolette instead:3gears:

In thinking about it, I remember buying it from Fusick in Connecticut. Sorry for the confusion!

1968-72-- Two type knobs, with two part numbers, same color--- one for consolette cars (plain) and one for non-consolette cars (with the shift pattern). There is no provsion, in terms of part numbers, for more than one color. If you look at other parts available in different colors like consolettes, steering wheels, storage consoles, etc., you will see a different part numbers assigned by the color.

When I took delivery it came with a white ball, I remember wishing it was black to match my interior.

Does any GM made before 68 come with a Hurst shifter? My 69 Mack had a FOMOCO what a POS. I thought all our pre 68 GM cars had Muncie or Saganaw shifters

64' Skylark with four speed came with a Hurst shifter. To my knowledge that was the first year. It was unique in that that the stick didnt say Hurst? The side of the shifter housing will be stamped Hurst Competion Plus Patent Pending. The shifter rods are not threaded. The knob was black with no shift pattern.

I have pictures in the 64-65 SBB 4 speed post in the sticky section. If I remember right they dropped it in 65' Not sure what year it came back.

My 73 with no console came with a Hust Shifter and a black ball with markings.

Personally, I prefer the white ball and have one in my 71
