I need the forum's help. I bought a console for my '67 GS 400. It was a great buy and the guy even included the shifter! I thought, what luck! I needed the 3-speed shifter for my TH400. Well, as I started to clean it and try to free up the unit (it is still locked up pretty tight and I hope it will free up soon after soaking in transmission fluid) I noticed this does not appear to be a shifter for a 3-speed TH400 but rather it looks more like a 2-speed Powerglide since there are only so many notches for the shifter to lock into. Has anyone ever converted one of these to a 3-speed? Can it be done? Can I add another notch for the lowest gear in the assembly by simply grinding out another notch? Is it possible to switch out a plate or something? If nothing can be done, can anyone suggest another aftermarket 3-speed shifter that will fit in my original console that will fit without having to butcher the console to make it fit? I REALLY do NOT want to cut up my newly acquired console. It's too nice to cut up.

Thanks for all of the help and suggestions!

    Dave

The website shown above might be your answer. I've got a complete console and shifter in the parts stash, I can take a photo of the detents on the shifter mechanism and post it if you want to see what it looks like in comparison to yours.

I did two 300 to 400 swaps and just drilled a second hole in the tranny swing arm to shorten the stroke.
Adjust linkage to get low at the end of travel. Drive and reverse were 90 percent right on the letters. Worked perfect for me.
One was a console and one a column shift.

I'd like to see that Gary.

    Thanks,

    I don't see one for a '67. Is the '68 the same as a '67?

    Thanks,

    Dave

The #SC2082 is the one you need. The reason they don't list 67 is they already came with a 3 speed trans and many people convert the 2 speed in 64-66 cars.

what shift rod and trans lever are you going to use...

if you use the right rod and lever ou have to do nothing but change the gate..or wait til i get home, i have a 400 turbo gate and a correct skylark rod nd lever for a 400 turbo..ill be home in a few days...

post pics of the rod and lever..lets see what you have

Dave, Here are a couple of photos of a '67 GS400 shifter. Sorry it took me so long to post them.
