I970GS455 For the love of Buicks...

I need advise from someone thats done it or does it for a living...

1 standard size pallet with 2 large boxes on it.

Aprox 300lbs (at the most I would think)

Dallas area to El Paso. 620 miles

What is the best way to ship this???????? :Do No:

Dont need it to be a hot shot. Figure 7-10 days is fine. Already sat on another dock for 2 weeks trying to be a partial load to save on costs, but didnt happen, so I went and pcked it back up.

And what is the normal charge I should expect to pay?????

I have access to many freight forwarding companies. (Fed Ex, UPS, Central, Road Way, etc.....)

Insure these items as a lump sum or how does that work? (Its a tranny, aluminum intake, headers, and other items. Roughly 2 grand in new parts) Whats the advice?????? :Do No:  :Do No:

    Thanks :TU:

I shipped a motor and tranny from Montana to Houston. I got prices all over the map. They seemed to be more concerned w/ weight than size. They didn't care it was on two pallets as long as it was less than 1000lbs. It also made a diff if there was a loading dock.

I went to the dock to pick it up. That saved a little. Total cost was $376.12. Yours certainly should be cheaper than that. I used USF BESTWAY. It took 3 days from the day they picked it up.

I would cover it well to disguise what it is. When I called to see if it had come in yet, the warehouse guy said "isn't that one of those bad ass Buick motors" or something like that. Needless to say I was down there quick before parts started walking off.

Are you shipping parts to Jim Burek?

Let me know how you do it and the $'s. I may need to ship this motor and tranny to Jim to get it rebuilt.

    Regards
    Rick

i shipped a 12 bolt rearend from ohio to wisconsin. it was straped to a pallet and totally enclosed it was around $100 with a weight of around 250#'s. i cant remember what the trucking co. name was though it was a big co. i think it was yellow freight.

i also shipped a GS hood to texas from ohio through forward air and the price was $46 and it got there in 3 days.

of coarse with these co. you have to drop the items off at a terminal and the items have to be picked up at the closest destination terminal.

    Yes Rick,

I will let you know how much this costs as well as the costs coming back for the complete motor and tranny to come back. Thanks :TU:

Doug, I have all those freight companies you mentioned VERY available to me. Alot of freight forwarders on the airport grounds (DFW), and I go through it daily to get to work. That helps :beer

You guys recomend Freight Insurance? :Do No:

  5. you can use fed ex freight services they will pick it up from anywhere and you can put as much insurance on it as you wish

    Rick,

Went out today. Costs $170. Insurance built into the shipment at $25. per pound. (for new items only) I guess additional insurance could have been bought at an additional(of course) fee. I estimated (with JBs help) at 300lbs. 1 skid position. :bglasses:
