Should I put on a clear coat or not?

I'm painting a set of inner fenders for my Centurion and I'm a bit undecided on clear coating them or not. I'm using dupli-color engine enamel rattle can paint.

Should I go for the ultimate shine, or should we stay with the semi glossy black? Are there any downsides with painting something with the clear coat or any benefits?

One word of advice for under hood stuff is use black primer as any scratches will show gray. Been there! Try the clear in a not visible spot and see how it looks.

Other than the shine not much else. Better wait till Smartin comes back from rochester, minn. as he did it on his Centurion. And now he has the low-mileage LeSabre and knows what the factory shine really was. I'm gonna guess clear coat, unless he took this almost immediately after laying the paint down. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=100440 I would lay some clear coat as I love a good shine. :bglasses:

    Good advice Dave ! :TU:
Depends on what look your after Kimson - the originals were probably a satin sheen, semi- gloss black. Adding the clear will give them a high gloss 'wet' look which some people prefer. Try a side-by-each test panel with and without, and see what yah thinks. :Do No: :TU:
