I wouldn't bet on that, I went to a show in Graham Washington a few years back with my 53 and got the best GM award. There were more than one El Camino! The 53 had a lot of lookers! Bob H.
Seems like a tough call. I agree with several of the posts above, lots of good points. A lot depends on what you really want the most. Value wise, the Elky is going to be on top. Cool wise they both have merit. Have you talked to the Buick owner about buying it outright? I understand that a lot of guys, including myself, can't afford 2 projects. But there are a lot of guys with multiple projects. Just another way of thinking about it.
Get good an hammered tonight then choose one and write it down,...so's not to forget,...then in the morning look at your decision and choose the opposite...never fails Yous gotta take your brain out of the equation ha
I love the looks of those custom Buicks you posted, slick machines! That said, from a "dollars and sense" standpoint this is a no brainier: stick with the El-co. Hate to say it, but from a value and desirability perspective, it is what it is. Smart money's on the chebbie.
Well I've put a lot of thought into it and I think my best outcome is to keep the El Camino. As far as having two projects it would mean three old cars. I have a 2 car garage and 2 is my limit. So it's my 71 GS and the 59. Of course I've had a few cocktails so
GET THE LED OUT So the Elco needs a 100% frame off resto that be outa commision for 5 years. That is if you finish it and dont lose yer arse getting a loss of interest in it. That Buick is almost driveable. I like the concept, the interior, and the louvered hood. Plus with the 455 itll be a screamer! The guy I bought my '64 froms' dad had a 455 in a 51 Buick as well. Until it got a "rod knock" LOL. As soon as I saw yer first pic, I realized what the front motor mount was about. That lent credence to the guys story. I have one of the frame mounts that came with the motor! The other issue is the oil pump/filter/frame clearance issue on the other side... maybe. This one had a remote mounted filter on it. Long tail shaft 400 turbo was behind it. Do the led sled. Dont forget the flame throwers too! That elco may be worth $$XXXXX when done, but can you imagine every judge and his cousin picking the crap out of it? Youll be in over yer head; psychologically ! ws
Keep and finish the Elco and if you still want that year Buick sell the Elco and buy 4 finished ones with the Elco $$ and probably have some $$ left over!
[QUOTE="hemikillerstg1, post: 2901836, member: 731 Of course I've had a few cocktails so[/QUOTE] Well, now myself, and I'm betting some others, don't feel alone.
I'm with some of the elco guys . elco - $$$$$ 52 special - $ he made the offer correct ? and he knows you are a buick guy correct ?
I’d vote for the Buick. Seems like there’s more El Caminos around. A friend just sold one, not big bucks either.
He didn't know i was a Buick guy. Average price for a nice 59 el camino is about 25-35k. If it runs and drives it's 10-20k. Depending on rust and if the trim is all there. I have 99% of the trim, I'm missing one piece. Leaning towards keeping the elco. Love the look of this one.
