This question is in reference to my 62 buick skylark with the original 215 engine. It has had engine work done on it before so its not a virgin. I have good oil pressure (25-35) at 55 mph, but at idle it is about 5. There seems to be alot of smoke coming out of the valve cover breather. More than I`m used to seeing on other cars I have. It does not appear to have a head gasket leak. There is no milky residue anywhere in the valve covers or in the oil pan. The heads have been freshly rebuilt by a engine shop and installed by myself. The oil pump appears to be fine and has a metal booster plate on it to eliminate normal wear. New rocker arm assembly`s. I was wondering if I should rebuild the entire lower end of the engine due to the oil pressure being so low at idle? Also was wondering if its the original tranny (auto) what kind is it?

Sounds like you have alot of blowby. Probably needs a lower engine rebuild. I would do a compression check, and a leakdown test. If you find any low cylinders, squirting some oil into the cylinders and retesting will tell you if your rings are shot. Idle oil pressure is low, but it isn't as critical on those engines as it is with the BB's. Original transmission should be the ST-300, I think??

Howdy All, I wonder if an engine can have a pluged PCV valve and a bad oil pressure guage at the same time? Thats not the norm I know just a thought.
