I was considering installing power windows in my gs and since the harness are a rare thing I wonder what will happen if I do my own wiring?I mean, if I run my own wire from the ign power to the switchs and to the motors, with no relays,(wire straight from ign to switch to motr) will it works??I wont fry the power window switch???

I would definately use relays . The switch can't handle the load without a relay. Several aftermarket companies make a harness complete with relays and switches to make the conversion that you want and will be safe and simple . Also a concern is overloading wires and or switches causing a fire .

Who sells it? I could do it and use relays, is there someplace where I can see the wiring diagram of the pwindows? And if I do it with relays what kind of gage wire should i use?

Painless has that harness and I will check some other catalogs later today to get you some other options . As far as the wire size and relays and switches all that is included in the kit .

check out hot rod sites. like honestcharley's i believe. the sites for guys building street rods or rat rods. they may be cheaper.

Depending on the wire harness cost.....you can easily use one from
    any 73-77 A-body 4 dr w/pw set-up. You will just need to extend/solder
a couple of wires and you will be set.

Thanks a lot Mike for helping me out!!!I checked my GS fuse block and notice I dont have the 'master fuse' and the ''tang'' next to it is missing too??

Sounds like the tang is missing or possibly broken off . I can't rememebr who right now but they do make a new fuse block that looks original and you just put your wires into it . My thoughts on that are if you have enough problems that you need to replace fuse block you need new harness too . Good luck with your conversion .

I have this info on our site for PW installation.

If the car didn't have PW from GM....that tang and master fuse will not be there and you can easily get them and add them to your existing fuse block......read my article and you will see everything you need.

I can also, possibly get a PW harness from a 71-76 Cad conv....I will have to check to see if it will work.

Yeah Georges, your right, my car probably did not have any power option when it came out.I have spent the whole week-end reading on your site,!!!What a great place for infos, you sure did a hell of a job!!Congratulation:TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: Really helpfull, I even dare say its one of the best buick site on the web, in the top 5 for sure! There is still somethings I dont understand about the power window wiring set up:

1st:The main power 'tang'(the one missing on my car, next to the big fuse),
-this 'tang is fused by the 'big fuse' right??
-is there always power running trough it???(even with the switch off with no key, like the 'BAT' terminal)If so, whats the difference with the BAT terminal and this 'tang', why not having just one terminal with straight battery power??

If you plug the power windows on the IGN tang, then you would only get power when the car is running ....The IGN just activate the relay to let the power from the TANG run to the power window switchs, why not just run a wire from th IGN to the power window, no need for the relay and TANG and big fuse...??

You have to use the pink wire which goes to the IGN fuse block terminal...this turns on the relay and lets current flow to the pw harness. You can also plug the pink wire into the BAT terminal...this will allow you to use the PW regardless if there is a key in the ignition cylinder.

You have to use the relay and the master PW fuse...it is 30 amp. You can get the tang if missing for the master PW fuse from Radio Shack or similar electronic store....it is called a glass fuse holder.

Ok, and while im at it,

1-, For power door locks, do I need a relay or do I plug them straight to the bat, or main power 'TANG' terminal??

2- And for power seat bucket???
(And by the way, does the power bucket seat slide forward and backward electricaly or is that still manual??What electrical actions does it do??(I would guess it only tilt the whole bucket straight backward or forward???....

    Thanks Georges for the infos!!

When you have more than 1 power option....you will need the power wire junction set-up......it plugs into the master power "tang" and has 3 sockets for p.seat, pdl, pw.

The p.bucket is a 4 way seat....back-n-forth and up and down.

    Visit www.buickperformance.com/PowerSeats.htm

to see a pic of the factory power bucket seat mechanism.

Hey, yeah Georges, I guess I had skip the power seat section on your site! Does it goes up and down straight or is it tilting backward and forward??? And I have seen this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0283027273&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&viewitem=

Is it really an A-Body power seat???

And as for connecting them, I know that you plug them on the main 'TANG' with THE Splitter (the one on your site too!), but then from that splitter, the power window goes to the relay, but the power door lock and the power seat, do they run trough a relay of their own too??Or are they direct from that spliter, wich would mean that they work even if the car as no key in the barrel?...would seem right for the pdl but not for the pseat...???

  16. GStage1

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

The p.seat in your link is a 6 way and will not work.

The splitter has all 3 power options plugged into it.

The PW has the pink "turn-on" wire which is controlled by the key cylinder. As I stated before....you can put the pink wire to the "bat" terminal.

The p.seat and PDL work direct from the splitter....no relays involved.

    Hey!!,

Thanks Georges!!!You have finally show me the light! haha!

So that mean the power seat works (and thats factory) even when the car is not running with no keys in the barrel!? weird...

And as you are saying in buickperf.com, and I quote (almost) :...and dont even think to make them fit...

talking about the 6 way pseat, theres no way to make it fit?? Whys that?? (too large??)you can trim it??..

  18. marcflag

    marcflag 70 GS455 clone

...hey, and the six way pseat, what are the 2 other ways??

  19. GStage1

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Those full size seats are too wide and will not work....even the feet/pedestal mounts are different.

Original seats....4 ways.....front, back, up and down

Full size original and later model are 6 way.....front, back, front up, front down, rear up and rear down.

I see, good thing I almost bought that thing!...Must be a rare thing an A-body power seat??Can the original power seat be instal on the passenger side?? Anyway, I dont think im gonna find one that easy...

And is that right, you forget this one, that means they would have work (the power seats) originally even when the car is shut off??

And while im at it, you are so knoledgeable, I have notice there are 2 kind of 8-Track Player during th 68-72 era,

-the one with rolling style commands
-and the one with 2 big button commands

wich and wich were right for what year and model??
