Most single stage paints you dont buff there gloss is in the way the paint dryes follow recomended air pressure at your gun use a old fender door or some metal panel to test your gun the way you spray distance how fast you go and air pressure determine the amount of orange peel your finish will have, You can still sand out runs and respray and blend the spot in , its actually easyer than base coat clear coat to fix problems if you sand through the clear and get to the base coat the base coat you apply will lift the fresh base coat; and the clear is hard to fog in it takes a different clear than you just sprayed to blend in a patch you would need to do a whole door or panel sometimes more than half of the car to make the repair in the clear match; Just follow recomended reduction, clean surface with wax and grease remover dont touch surface with bare hands , you might think about adding a fish eye remover to your paint if you dont have good filtration on your air supply need to be clean ; the paint is easy to spray and good results with out all the sanding and buffing the adverage person wont know the difference; Don in Wells NV

If it's a solid color, single stage is an excellent choice. If it's metallic, use bc/cc. I've sprayed numerous cars with single stage, show cars included. I like the way it sprays better than bc/cc and you can cut and buff it just like clearcoat. Personally, I think it's easier to work with and it turns out just as nice or nicer than bc/cc. I have restored a ton of GTOs for a guy in Illinois and he told me one day that a paint guy was at his place looking at all the cars, most of which are show cars sprayed with both single stage and bc/cc, and he pointed out that he thought the black `68 hardtop had the nicest paint on it out of all of them. That car has single stage on it.

If I were to make any suggestions it would be, if you plan to cut and buff it,

    1) Put 4 coats on rather than 3.

    2) Do it as soon as possible. I've always started color sanding the very next day.
