HI everyone, my name's Michel and I've been offered a 65 Skylark coupe with a 300 v8. It's really rare here, and i'm kinda in love with its looks.
I always loved american muscle cars and I've been wanting to get one. This could be a good deal but I'll have to restore quite a few parts, I felt the best way to start would be to ask help and advise from people who own and love these cars :)

I'll open a thread right away with some pics and questions, thank you guys for any help you can give me.

    Hi guys!

North of Italy, between Parma and Modena. You may know Parma for the ham prosciutto di Parma, and you may know Modena for Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati

Yes Modena I know. A Ferrari is on my bucket list. We have been to several of your cities. We are coming back to see Herculaneum and Pompeii.

    And finally it's home!
I think I got a good deal on it and I have several things to fix. mostly electrical problems and reupholster the two front bucket seats. It runs well and damn I love the sound.
What are the first mechanical checks and works I should do on it to be sure to drive safely and have the engine in good shape?

It looks like you have picked a winner, 65 Skylarks are my favorites. That 300 engine is very dependable and long lasting power plant, I had one in my first 65 and put almost 200K on it with no major problems. I would check out all the brakes, lines and brake hoses, inspect wheel bearings and repack, check out all steering and front end parts, replace the radiator hoses and flush and refill with new anti freeze, change oil and filter , tune up engine if needed , make sure tires are good and not dry rotted and then drive it and enjoy. You have a great looking car there, congrats on your purchase!!.
