There is two drilled holes in the trunk, by the gas tank straps, without anything in there. Approx. 3/8 inch, does anybody know what goes there? o No: BTW: By the baack of trunk, near bumper.
No im not sure if its from the factory. And i can't get a pic at the moment because i was at my friends house (where the car was) but am not there anymore. Maybe dealer-add on bumper guards hooked on? o No:
It could have had air shocks at one time & those are the holes for the valve stems or maybe they are just speed holes  o No: D.
Through the trunk? I would say that any dealer would be very reluctant to put holes in the trunk- hitting the gas tank comes to mind, as does pulling exhaust fumes into the car. If the holes are not in a knock out recess, than I would say that sometime in the last 35 years, somebody drilled some 3/8" holes. My Skylark never had 'em.
The holes are probably for a trailer hitch. I have the same thing in the trunk of my 70 442 conv. When I got the car I noticed the rear bumper had a chunk broked off at the bottom. It was dead center, with half of a hole drilled in it. The trunk also had (2) 1 1/4" holes in it. I later found out that the car had a trailer hitch. Somehow it caught on something and got ripped out of the car, causing the damage. The larger holes in the trunk were due to the size washers around the mounting bolts. Years ago they mounted trailer hitches to the body, later they changed this to frame only mounted units. If you look at my car you can see why. Duane
