I am sure someone here has picked up an interior part that has been in a salvage or just in a car parked outside for a long duration. I recently found a sport wheel in a local salvage and am trying to find out if there is a way to get rid of the slime that has built up on it without destroying it. There are no blemish's it is perfect except for the nasty way it feels when you hold it. Any help or ideas is apprectiated thank's in advance for the help.

"Remove the wheel from the hub and the horn button.
Buy some Castrol Super Clean (purple liquid) and use a small stiff brush. You can get both at Autozone. Use a large sink. Spray Super Clean on the wheel, both sides and let soak 4-5 mins. Use the brush and scrub the wheel front and back. Use water to wash the wheel and you will be set." --George N.(GStage1)

Good advice there from George via Bill. Simple Green works similarly.

Recognize that what you are feeling is off-gassing of the vinyl. It will continue forever, or until all that is left is the steel inner - prolly take a 1000 years.

I thank you for the advice. I went to the local Oreilly and found out that Castrol no longer makes the super clean and that the product that is called super clean now is supposed to be the same just not made by Castrol any more. The bottle looks exactly the same it just doesn't say Castrol anymore. I did not want to take a chance with it so I picked up the Simple Green and it worked great. Thank's again.

An alternative is to install a leather steering wheel cover.

iIremember when Simple Green came out, hearing about that the man of the family that invented it would prove its safety by drinking some:shock: . Naturally, and hopefully, an urban legend. But i don't think it's good on fish and chips:pp . You sure have strange tastes.

I have a couple "sticky" sport wheels and happily found this thread. :beer

Also, I had purchased some of the non-Castrol Super Clean previously after being impressed with the older version. DFI STAGE2 made the right call. The new stuff is NOT the same. The Castrol version will actually etch aluminum, the current product is no where near as caustic (or effective as a cleaner).
