ive got a 75 electra w/455 and turbo 400 and it just started 2 days ago when i park it feels like the is something not engaging and it makes a small racheting noise as it rolls. Is this and easy fix or is the trans fuc@$#. Worse part my parking brake dont work good :af:
Two things: 1 - The shift linkage needs adjustment, should be an easy fix. 2 - The parking pawl inside the trans is damaged or broken, not so easy to fix. I'd bet on # 1 being the culprit.
Check to make sure you haven't run over any brush or small tree limbs that might have gotten lodged in the linkage underneath the car. Having the parking pawl fail at this stage of the game is fairly rare. The 400 pawls are pretty tough.
