I got this old Special. Didn't really need it or want it. It has a V6 engine with auto tranny. Is there anything I can use on a V8 car? What kind of tranny did a 6 cyl. have? Wondering if I could use the converter in a T350 or 400. Would it have a low gear in the rear?

This thing has not run in 10 years. I only looked at it for 5 mins last year and this year the guy begged me to buy it, so I did. Now it has been hauled in to my place. The wife is    . It must go soon. Thanks in advance.

I guess I'll be the first to ask how the quarter panels are?
    :)

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

V6 shares the ST 300 trans with the small block V8 cars. That torque converter is a switch pitch so it will not work in a TH 350 or TH 400. Chassis and body parts obviously swap.

Are you going to part it out, if so how is the grille>>? :Brow:

Thanks for the info so far. What year T400 would it fit? Just the earlier SP ones?

Now about the car. I don't know what to do with it. It is complete, but has rust. Quarters are bad. Since it has sit outside with flat tires for a decade, I would assume the floors and trunk are weak (not opened the trunk yet, and never pulled up the carpet). I do have a clear title, but assume it is only a parts car.

Does have a complete grill, but after closer inspection, I saw a crack in the center.

What do you think? Should I part it, sell it as a resto. or push it to become a race car? I might take some pics this weekend.

I think the torque converter will only work for the two speed SP (ST300). Pretty sure the ST400 used a different converter. Up to you whether you part it, if you do though, there are plenty of '67 guys on here that need parts.

Forgot to mention if it's a 2 door or a 4 door? If it's a 4 door I wouldn't recommend dumping money into it. If it's a 2 door you could do a big block conversion fairly easily (or make a GS clone). Fender vents and hood scoops and it's pretty close...

Well, I will have to figure it out. It is a 2 door hardtop car. I don't want to sink any cash into it. Got too many irons in the fire. You may see it in the for sale section soon.

    msc66 still no vacuum

    gears

If its an A/C car it should have 3.23 gears if not it would have 2.93.
(At least that's the way it is for '66 so I would think '67 would be the same)

That V-6 torque converter will fit the ST300 and ST400.....in addition, it will give a higher stall rpm when used on a V-8!

The 65-66 GS used a converter similar to the 300 V8....it'll give a higher stall than the converter used in the BIG Buicks with a ST400......

Rear ratio...I show the same info as Mike posted (for a '66)....

IMHO, Specials make great drivers, or race cars.....since there's no fear of hurting the value of the car by modifying it....

    Thanks Mike and Walt,

I thought the stall would be better than a stock big block one. Now, what years did the ST300 and ST400 reside in Buicks? Is the 300 similar to a Turbo 350? I have a 67 Riv tranny that I hope the converter would work in. Guess it would work well with a slightly larger cam. If the rearend would have had a low 300 ratio gear that I needed......

Check the driver's side of the trans, it should have a electrical plug. If that plug is a 2 prog then it is a sp trans and if the input shaft is an inch long it should work.

ST 300 Convertor willWork in 400 with switch pitch!

I have switched these convertors in 67s before. A Super Turbine 300 convertor will work in a 400 that is switch pitch. Where's this car and what do you want for it?
    Thanks
    Jim N.
