More .. and the Buick Won on the first shot, Chevelle missed a shift but the Buick was running strong anyway
Here's some Buick pics and one Mercury, duh? Here I got a bye from the '69 Mustang that broke trans and ran both rounds anyway! Out of the box(Trailer) the old girl ran a 14.38 with a 2.1 60 Ft time, never happens again, of course. Ran slower as the day went on, put the Dave Hemker rebuilt 400 Q-jet on it and ran 14.42 on Saturday, so happy, then they call the pairings and I go out to look for #49 Mustang, not to be found, and go back to Tech and Dan says he's out with a 2nd gear problem, so I've got a bye, way cool, ran a 14.49 on my own, and thinking the "red car" wins either way, that's what the folks in the stands were betting on. So, Dan and Bob, thanks again for putting on this Pure Stock Race, by the looks in the stands, this was probably one of the best attended event either in a long time or ever. Which is the way is should be, Spectators, make the Muscle Car events continue and remain. RV
Pesky '67 Ford Fairlane 500, 427ci, that took me all 3 rounds to beat. Brought a new best for me and my car though, 12.91@108.13. Had a great time racing, Thnx Bob and Dan, for another fun year :beer . Joe X.
Both of you were running really good.... Good to see clean cars running hard in the stright line and not just for show. Stanton had a good show this year. Thanks for all who raced, it was fun to see.
That Fairlane is one of my favorite cars to see there in a while...I bleed Bow-Tie red, but that car had goin' on! My grandfather used to tell of trying to order a '67 wagon with the 427, but he wanted an automatic car (he was the local ambumlance & mortician), so he settled for the 390...oh what could have been! ou: Anyone else sit around 1/2 track and watch Stefina ham-fist the 3-speed down the track?! It blew my mind seeing his hand moving the wrong way (towards the glass!) going down the track...! Seeing the '58 in person finally was in itself worth the drive...the rest was just gravy! :TU: Thanks to Bob & Dan & the rest of the crew...also, Diego worked the mic beautifully as usual, but it was cool hearing Scott as the color man...I hope they team up together in the tower in the future? ----------------------------- Hillbilly Racing Team Membership has it's privileges...no shoes required!

I now know why my car was down on power dropped the #2 exhaust valve, one keeper is missing and the other was ground paper thin.........
Short and sweet: OUCH. DEFINITELY check your deck height on that side of the engine before you put it back together.
in a word....... AWESOME Had an excellent time. Met a ton of great people.....hung around with "Mom"; watched a few carb rebuilds (thanks for the lessons Steve!! keep the dogs outta your lap ); got my :moonu: handed to me by a '68 Firebird; learned about bedbugs and Willie Nelson...... Next year, I'm wearing a shirt that says: "I am NOT Roberta!" And, from here on - it's no longer "Lucille"; she shall be addressed as "Ms. Lucille, Queen of the John Force Burnouts" A great event, filled with great people. If you haven't been there, get there next year!!
We clayed the motor and we have plenty of clearance......... I don't know what happened, but the one keeper looks like it has been gone for a little while, the retainer is all wollowed out from rocking back and forth on the valve.. unbelievably, there appears to be only a small nick in the piston, a small scuff on the cylinder wall, and a no damage to the valve seat at all. Lucky or un-lucky, you be the judge......
