Does anyone know of a good Sound Deading Material, Maybe something that you have used and also the ease of doing it? One other thing How do I make sure that I don't trap moisture under it?

The sound deadening material for Skylark models is basically asphalt sheeting. If you car is non-Skylark, I think Home Depot sells a similar material in their roofing supply section. You can not prevent moisture trap but if you undercoat the floor pans first with rubberized undercoating. You should not have a problem with that. I rubberize undercoat all the floors on my car and it also acts as a sound deadener.

Regular household carpet padding seemed to help mine, but keep in mind that it is THICK - you can only put it in the valley sections of the floor, or else the carpet will not fit correctly.

Go to a car audio shop. Check out the Dynomat or similar products. Rockford Fosgate makes a spray version as well, for those real hard to reach areas.

Not cheap stuff, but it sure works good. :TU:

You need to go with a product like Dynamat extreme. Only problem is Dynamat is extremely expensive. www.RAAMaudio.com sells RAAMmat60 which is better than dynamat extreme in sound damping qualities and is about 1/5 of the price. It has an aluminum barrier to reflect radiant heat, and the adhesive is extremely good. It is 60mills thick, so it wont be bulging underneath your door panels or anything. Ive got it covering the interior panels of the car, doors, back seat, package tray, back side panels, front kick panels, areas in the dash, a little in the back quarter panels of the trunk, etc.

It made the biggest difference to the overall feel of the car of anything else so far. The car feels rock solid, the floors actually seem like floors, not like thin pans with ground underneath. It gives you the feeling of having real boundaries seperating you from whats outside. It drops the noise, kills vibrations, increases SPL of sound system by about 3 db, and many other benifits. The doors shut with no rattles, they just close perfectly. This car now feels like your driving a luxury Buick compared to a chevy before.

Overall i have 62 square feet of it installed. Cost was like, 75 bucks or so. Go look that up and compare it to dynamat and see which one you would rather pay for.

Oh, by the way, it weighs about 28 pounds for the 62 square feet. pretty dense stuff, but 28 pounds is what, .028 seconds longer down the quarter mile. Weight worth fussing over? I dont think so......

P.S. On the moisture problem, Just clean the area good and use a wheel of some sort (casters for a cabinet or something) to roll the stuff into all the grooves and to make sure that it is completely adhered to the metal. Once its on there, moisture wont get underneath.

    one more option

Try the stuff from www.partsexpress.com They have several different types including the Dynamat stuff (which happens to be the most expensive).

    good luck

    Sound Deadener

My 76 Regal used some kind of grey sticky stuff in the C pillars, behind the side windows. It had something written on it, like 'Sound Deadener'. I bet that stuff works, or GM wouldnt have used it in a hidden area. If anyone on the list knows where to find it, I would try that too.
