Anyone know of a good source for an American made heater core and blower motor? Last two heater cores I bought were Mexican. I like Mexican food but that is it. I checked Rock Auto and NAPA etc. They do not even list any period. I know some of the resto suppliers may sell them but they are Mexican and top dollar as well. I would think Modine would make a heater core but a search turns up nothing.
Dave, I just bought this one $20.00. Vendor claims identical to GM, less the stamp. No origin listed. I'll let you know when I get it. May be USA made, may not be. E-Bay # 290342611005
Modine doesn't produce any parts for the aftermarket anymore. The aftermarket for their products is now Proliance. Most if not all of the Proliance replacement parts are made overseas. You may sometime see a proliance part with the modine name on it. But they are just co opting the modine name because it has/had a better reputation.
Steve, can't wait to see what you get. Most places get $50 or more. Year One gets $95.ou: Whamo, Thanks for that info. Figures. Stuck again with overseas junk. Probably made by an 8 year old. exposed to heavy metals. Sad.
Vendor listed part # PM-102, didn't say to whom the number belonged. Stumbled on it, don't need it, it just seemed real cheap & I'll have a spare.
The 8 year old who built mine did a fairly good job. It fit well and hasnt leaked yet. When I installed mine I do remember some sheet metal screws that attach some of the retaining straps/brackets come pretty darn close on the sharp end to making contact with the brass tank on the heater core. I added a couple small flat washers to make sure they didn't pierce the tank when tightened. A hole like that might not leak immediately but certainly would show up eventually. You might want to watch for that. The 660-3028 part number sounds like a proliance part just like mine was.
Good point on the screws, another point. Did anyone notice if Gm used anykind of assembly sealer or cusion between the heater core and the heater box or firewall? I know there was a seal at the nozzles but other areas look like metal on metal.
My 74 uses a sealer between the firewall and the heaterbox and the 2 sections of the box. This is the type of sealer that comes in a roll and has the ability to mold and bend like soft taffy. I borrowed some from a friend that does a/c work.
Best bet on the blower motor is NOS, or maybe have yours rebuilt. On the heater core, have it recored by a radiator shop. Keeps the $$$ at home, not in China.
Just purchased a blower switch from Classic Auto Air in Tampa. They have website--just google. The switch was expensive but tried all other sources and couldn't locate. Might want to give them a shout. Rod
