Very valid, its the only way imo . Doesn't necessarily mean that a carb with no or very little vac will run optimum thru the whole rpm range not with out fuel curve adjustment but it does guarantee that its not holding the engine back. I would be pretty surprised if a 750 hp couldn't supply all the air and fuel a street/strip 350 could want. One thats getting run to 7k and has a nasty cam yea I could see it wanting a 950. But just dont listen to that nonsense that a carb is too big because its fouling plugs at low rpm and cruise, thats a curve issue not a "size" issue. If investing ina pperformance carb get an HP style with removable air bleeds , it allows almost infinite tuning of the whole curve add in adjustable metering blocks and you can make one run like fuel injection
I was thinking the same thing:shock: Im sure the weather has played a role, its been ****ty rain whenever theres a TNT. My SP3 is still at the machine shop getting hogged out. I've been trying to get back to the track to finish wringing out my Stage 1, but the weather, and regular track programs, and family stuff hasn't been cooperating Damn this summer is going FAST!
Just finished installing mine on the twin turbo's. Need to tune it again now. Plus I need to install my new torque converter after that. As for the track, we only have an 1/8 mile down here & its shuts down all summer & reopens in mid September fir 2 or 3 race days. I will miss the first 2 races as I will be in Hawaii, but will update with track times from races in October.
I haven't been able to do zip. Fianc had left anterior hip replacement 5 weeks ago. Developed a group B Strep infection and had second surgery 6 days ago to clean area out. Vacation home is to be demolished this Monday. Got caught in rain with GS today. 1st time out in two weeks. SP3 just sitting there..... After teardown, and patient caring, still have plans to run the stage 1 with the 850 demon, then make the SP3 swap. Not much fishing time at all this year yet. I'm tired!!!!
WOW, Mart you have a full plate there! Take care of your fiance:TU: Sounds like you have the same intentions as I do, finish running the Stage 1:laugh:
I can't get to track either there has been too much rain. But next Friday shows no rain so I might make the trip to Quaker City Raceway to see how I am running now, it has been 5 years since I have been to the track. Rain is killing us here. NE Ohio.
One good thing, yesterday I ran the e-way for 18 miles in 93* heat. Temp stayed @185, oil pressure was 20 @ idle , 40 @ 2,000 rpm, & 50 @ 2,500 cruising @ 75 mph. (Mechanical gage). Lockup working good too.
Marty, I am in the same boat. Working Full Time College (Finish MBA in October). Family Try to hunt, fish, and enjoy cars in spare time.
I had a molar go bad and still waiting for antibiotics to make my jaw feel better to pull it. Going to do that Monday. Got a 76 350 with cap screw rods and the oil pick up tube and the oil feed hole is smaller than my 68 or my 72. If the 350 and the 455 have oiling issues why would an engineer make the feed smaller??? I will possibly go flat tops in this one and maybe bush the rods so we can see how that SP3 flows!!!
I don't think you can get 5/8 1/2 is safe. 9.16 is you can sonic test or center so you don't do thru on the inner rail
Phill did you open up your oil passages and enlarge 2,3,4 for the mains? Do you have some pics of your head porting? I will be porting 68 heads.
