It is so thoughtful of you to enter his plea and find him guilty here but fortunately that is not the system of justice we have in the USA.

With Mopars in town that last weekend it was probably flashing continuously. I'm not sure what it's like now but years ago it was absolutely crazy. Police dogs, helicopters, cops arresting people left and right. My girlfriend was scared one year it was so out of control.

I think they are total BS but the way the country is going lately you can expect more of this kind of stuff.

While these cameras were used to catch red light runners, it is basically the same.
The MN Supreme Court made Mpls. turn them off and refund any fines collected back to those that were ticketed using the cameras. :dollar:

"The problem with the presumption that the owner was the driver is that it eliminates the presumption of innocence."

I'm not sure if it is still true, but in MN any speeding ticket that is less than 10 miles over the posted limit doesn't get reported to the insurance companies, so it does not affect your insurance rates.

When we had speed cameras in this neck of the woods, they only resulted in a fine and no points, as they couldn't prove who was driving. In fact, it became well known that the tickets were simply an "invitation to pay" as the ticket was not served on the individual and sending by mail did not guarantee it was received by the registered owner, so one need not pay the ticket until it was personally served on you by a process server. I believe a very small percentage of the issued tickets were ever paid and when the program was cancelled, the outstanding tickets were forgiven.

One of the local guys on the BPG board posted a warning about these a couple months ago. The second I hit town, I was at 35, and never thought about going any faster. The thread was posted over here as well.

I have a feeling they'll be removed, or at least the speed cameras will. We have several red light cameras here in town, and I see more go up every month. They don't bother me, I just have to remember which ones have the cameras:laugh:

I'll spend my money in a Buick friendly town... Bowling Green!

Interestingly, a couple months ago I got a call from my credit card co. that someone attempted to use my # to buy gift cards in OHIO. :af: That seldom used card was used to hold my room at a hotel in Heath. Obviously someone at that hotel who had access to my info, tried to pull off credit card fraud. Maybe the a-holes in Heath should focus on crime more than gestapo-like police state tactics to scam a few bucks from citizens.

My friends and I will never go there again. Paul

There is a town safety committee meeting up there tonight. Apparently, there may be an issue about the proper publication of the ordinance that enabled the cameras. If this proves to be the case, they may have to waive the outstanding tickets. I think they issued 10,000?? in a short period of time. :eek2: Stay tuned.

I'm not a fan of the cameras personally. That being said, if you don't speed, you don't get a ticket. I stop alot of cars in the course of a night, and everybody thinks they should be the one to get a break. Nobody holds themself accountable anymore. Again, I am not a fan of the camera systems being used by some cities.

Last time I got stopped for ten over in TX on the way to Chicago, I owned up. He asked me where I was headed that time of night, and I told him Chicago. I was only about an hour out of Houston when he stopped me at 930pm. I think it caught him off guard, not only that I owned up to it, but that I just started an 18 hour drive at 8pm. He let me off, and I did only 7 over the rest of the way (and got passed by a lot of people). Gotta respect em, but yeah, I don't like cameras either, whether its to catch speeders or my wife to take an inopportune picture of me.

When an officer pulls over a speeder, they can observe the driver to see if they are impaired or drunk. Cameras only ring the register for the camera company, which gets a large chunk of the $$$ and the speed-trap town. Safety is the last concern with the speed cameras... $$$$ is. I wonder how much campaign money these camera companies "contribute" to political:dollar: officials and candidates to allow this George Orwell like set up to be installed. I'm not saying... I'm just saying.

    Topcat Got TORQUE?

Everybody needs to go see how they set up the their little cameras.....drops from a 50mph zone to a 35mph zone in a very short distance.....big open road with little traffic most the time.....see how long it takes to see the new speed sign take your foot off the gas(most people don't brake down to the new speed...they coast) and let your vechile decelerate to the posted speed.....i'll bet if you did a study...most people in most vehicles would not be down to the new limit by the time they hit the cameras if they let thier vehicle naturally decelerate....of coarse camera company knows that and the town knows that......

    I'll not pay mine.........!

From the pictures posted that were mailed I can't see how this can be legal because they can't prove who was driving.

Guys, Duane and I are working on this and have been since we became aware of the problem. I have personally spoke with the director of the chamber of commerce, the manager for NTR and everyone else I could. They ALL fully understand the implications of this as I made it quite clear to them. There has been a special meeting called for tomorrow evening with the Village of Heath officials, the director of the chamber and the track manager. I have to wait to hear what the outcome is, but I made it crystal clear what happens as a result of that meeting will have a direct impact upon our choice of venues for next year and we're expecting a huge turnout. No one wants us to leave as we do not cause trouble, unlike the event that is one week after ours. I am not a happy camper if you all are not happy.

Give us a chance to "correct" the situation. No guarantees, but we ARE working on it.

    Brad
