Hi All: Anyone know what color grey the shocks should be. Either a light grey or a charcoal (dark) grey. ? Thanks for your help. Ken
yup However that's not what the original ones were . Here is my original one owner car spiral shocks. Blue or Grey? Corvette folks determined that the Krylon Stonewashed denim blue is a very close match out of the can, without doing a custom mix. DL
If the car came with the Rallye Ride suspension with the rear sway bar, the shocks are not supposed to be spirals.
"If the car came with the Rallye Ride suspension with the rear sway bar, the shocks are not supposed to be spirals." That's after mid 1970 production, previous to that they were spirals. Duane PS. That picture looks a little too blue for my tastes.
DL, I don't care if its original or not, all I am saying is the color on the pic looks much more blue then shocks I have seen in person. You don't always get an accurate color when you take pictures of something. The color often gets weird due to shading, flash etc. I never could get over people asking for pics of color samples over the internet, it's such a joke. Why do you think painters do color matches using real paint chips against original parts, rather then pics of paint chips. Duane PS. and before anyone starts bitching I have both originals and NOS shocks from the correct time period and they look nothing like that. If you want the correct color there are several venders that sell the paint. It is called "shock gray" and I gave the answer to the original poster here when he PM'd me.
Guys, Here is a pic of 2 original front shocks, One is a pliacell taken off a 70 GS and the other is a spiral from another car. These pics were taken outside on my picnic table in broad sunlight. Duane
I love these 3 and 4 page discussions on shock color shade variances. Reminds me of the 5 page discussion we had on why the clock lens fogs up p
PS. No need to tape off the rubber insulators. If you look at my pic you can see the factory painted right over them. Duane
Jason , just wait until I ask what color Green was the throttle cable spring ? (I'm not kidding) Duane know's I was not trying to upset him. but I don't know what length this paint company went to accurately reproduce what they call shock grey, that they are marketing and making $ on. Duane's pics clearly look like a Blue hue to me. PS too late, already installed ou: DL
"PS too late, already installed" DL, Better get out the spray can. I sure miss the smiley that rolls. Duane
Duane: Thanks for all your help. I also looked at "flying" Buicks" pictures of his "X" car and his vert. Shocks are deffinately light grey. I also talked to JW and he agreed. Ken
