I have been reading some threads on splatter and in a rattle can there dose not seem to be much that is good. I called a guy in Road island that was mentioned in one thread and because I live in MN he sugested I try YearOnes black and auqa. He said it was the best out there.

Not a big fan of YearOnes pricing structure so I started looking around Ebay and found a GM black/Aqua splater. I would asume that it is the same stuff.

Called a local dealership and they have a can $15 Already wasted that much on duplacolor.

Has anyone used this and what did you think?

I used Dupli Color spatter paint (black w/aqua) and I thought it was close match. In fact I left an original area and it is hard to tell the difference. It uses more cans than you think. It comes out like a little like foam.

Your pic looks good. I did a test spray and compaired it to what is left in my trunk (about 1/2) and the stuff I got was not even close. But it does come out like nothing I have ever sprayed before.

Yep, it works and looks good. I swear I used 10 cans of the stuff.......make sure you use the clear over top to complete the job.

I used the following method: 2 cans black truck bed undercoating, 2-3 cans of DM109 Blk/Aqua from NAPA, 1-2 cans of satin clear any brand.
Everything worked great, just maintain with clear every year. The splatter paint is not water proof, as long as you don't have any leaks your ok. I have minor leaks that get in and it holds up good. I recommend to let it dry a day in between the Blk, Splatter, Clear. For the price about $60 you can't go wrong.

Looks good Laz! The Dupli Color was $6.08 per can at the Auto supply. I used 8 cans, however, it was over paint, not bare metal.

NAPA carries it DM109....runs about $6-7 per can

Use a bunch of clear so the work lasts.

I have used all of them and none really match the original. You need the stuff in the quart can. I think Zolotone is one brand. Auto color library sells a brand. I have seen it done with gun and it is so nice I would never use the spray bomb. Spray bomb peels off as well even if you use clear. The original paint had much fewer speckles in it than spray bomb.

I used the Eastwood version of the black/aqua along with the clear. It looks great and has held up well. But it really doesn't match the original at all. I've seen an original trunk and it looked mostly gray with a lot less specs than any can job I've seen. I may redo mine?

I finished my trunk on Tuesday and it looks "nice" not oem that I was hopping for.

I followed much of the advice I have recieved here on V8buick, but still:ball:

I wire brushed the surface rust away, then covered that with a nice coat of the por15. I love the por15.

Then covered the whole trunk with metal gray and finaly followed that with two cans of the dupla-color DM109 Aqua/black.

For the $40ish it cost me it looks great. On the other hand if I find someone that can closely reproduce the oem finish I would be all over it.

Like Dave said.....Zolatone is the best splatter paint out there. Back in the day, it was used on everything from planes to boats to Airstream trailers.
    TCP Global is another supplier.

I saw the Spray from Autocolorlybary that you sugested but at $50 and not being able to see it first I was hesitent.

Do you have a close up of your trunk using that stuff??
    Thanks
