Ok, this could be a rather long post, so here goes.
I got some supposedly Olds sport mirrors, retainers & gaskets off e-bay to put on my '72 Skylark. The gaskets were not flat, but angled and the pedistals fit on the gaskets. Here is the problem:
When I put the mirrors onto the retainer, they do not fit right...the end of the mirror opposite the small screw fitting doesn't seem to fit flush onto the gasket, because of the retainer.
Now, does anyone know if the Olds retainer was/is different from the Buick retainer? It seems both the LH & RH mirrors are having this trouble. I saw Year One sells a RH retainer but not the LH one and yet the Buick retainer looks similar to the ones I have now that aren't working. Confusing. Does anyone know what I can do to get these (*&^%^%$ mirrors to fit my car? Does anyone know where I can get a LH retainer for the driver's side sport mirror? One chrome "old man" mirror ain't cuttin' it...I got to get the sporty's on.
Thanks for any advice, as this has been very frustrating.

I would suggest you look at the date code on the mirrors. Should be in the format as such: 4-DMI-1, which would indicate April, 1971. The gaskets will be the same. If you can supply pics, it would be easier to see what your problem is with mounting them on your car.

If the problem is the gasket, Duane Heckman sells the correct gasket.
