Does anyone know where I can get a new gas tank for a '70 sportwagon, or if a tank from an Estate wagon would be the same?
Alan Without evaporator emissions which I presume is the Cal. option both the Estate and Sportwagons were GM 1231813 which should translate to a GM38A here http://www.quantaproducts.com/products.asp?dept=207 Based on what I have seen from opening some older used ones I would avoid used.
Taking a look at the link Jim provided, it looks like that is the correct tank. Alan, I have my tank out of my '70 right now so I can do a quick dimensional check for you. It makes sense that the tanks were different in '71 (along with the body style) because I remember the tank in my '72 Estate Wagon being ~24 gallons. Wish I knew 4 years ago that I could get a new tank for only $169 - that would have made it much easier/neater to put the sump in. Paul
I had a 71 Estate wagon as my first Buick. Unlike the bigger 71 the 70 with the 455 had a 22 gallon tank and so did the 70 Sport Wagon.
I just pulled measurements on both the Estate wagon tank and the Sport wagon tank, and they are not the same. :ball: The Estate wagon tank is about 10 inches longer. Anybody have an NOS '70 Sportwagon tank in their pocket?
wagon gas tanks Just a tidbit of information. My own experience shows me that a 69 special delux wagon gas tank is different than a 69 sport wagon gas tank. They are not interchangeable ou:
