I feel like this guy:    $70 for a motel room, $100 (edit) for gas, $30 to race....that's a lot of $$$$ just to go out there a 4th time to do this.... :3gears: :3gears: :moonu:
When we goto Conneticut its $140 for a room ! about $160 for gas [ at least ] and I think its about $30 to race, $10 to watch.... I need to move !
Dee, I hope you bring the car. I'd like to take a crack at this problem. Our plans as of today is to bring the Regal, Leaver and a 65 chevy for sunday. I know, chevy! but it runs mid 9s and has been track camp at temple. The car thinks its a buick. We find ourselves on trailer short again this year. Hopefully we can bring Leaver again (blue 70' stage1 car with stage2 power). I know alot of you have heard about the 'X' but we are not bringing it. Not a show event. So, if we can get the trailer we have: BBB 85' regal "Leaver" stage2 car 65 malibu "Touch of Class" David Atkinson David Doty Jeff Hika Ed Mensville "bubba" - Last years champ, 2002 Nat's regal champ, Navasota street car champ.
Hmm...that's $170. Cheaper than taking your car to a shop, and where else you gonna get such a motivated bunch of competent wrenches to help solve it? :Smarty: :Brow: :bglasses: And be able to stand back and watch the fun?
Dee, if you have problems there I can always trailer your car back. You would have to drive my 72 back though.
Very nice! I will be bringing two sets of drag tires for my car. I have a pair of 26in ET Drags and a set of 28in MT Drag Radials. Was going to try out both someone is welcome to use the set that I don't.
Bet those would fit on the '66 real well... Too bad we'll be coming in the truck, or I'd help you break 'em in on Friday. :3gears:
I Succeeded!!!! IN REALLY SCREWING UP THE CAR NOW! :af: :af: :af: Here's what's been done: 1) New fuel pump. 2) Several new fuel filters 3) Tried different carb. 4) Dropped tank, cleaned it out, took sock off pick up. 5) Removed external coil and did a distributor kit with new coil, module, cap, rotor, etc. on it. 6) Wrapped metal fuel lines in rubber fuel lines and put "spacer" pieces of fuel line between all heat sources. Haven't tested car since I did this. Car seems to run better and better times when cool. I had no problem running the 1/8 mi. when it was around freezing outside early December. Friday night did a test run up the service road after the car had been driven, sitting running, and hot. Started to surge at 6 seconds. Right after that, going normal speed I got on it getting on the highway, no problem. A few miles down the road, I pulled off on the shoulder, came to almost a complete stop and then got on it again like I was racing, and NO problem. This is what happened last night: It's worse now that I wrapped the fuel lines in rubber line. I also replaced the rubber fuel line between the metal line and the fuel pump last night. I took it all the way to Sanger to TNT on the service roads (20 miles from home). First run in the same place it started surging last week proved NO surging (whoopie). Couldn't get it to surge after several attempts but I could barely feel a little miss (maybe my imagination?). I checked the ignition wire on the distributor and it looked okay and still plugged in. Started maybe feeling a little cutting out but not bad. Pulled over and stuck a "spacer" piece of fuel line between the radiator hose and the distributor. This seemed to make the car very mad. It cut out all the way home. It would idle okay (maybe a little miss) and seemed to still have power when I would give it gas, but regular driving, it cut out (seems a little different than the surge). The car shows to be running cool, but the temp. gauge (mechanical) starts to mess up whenever the ignition wire gets too close to it or something. We (GS and I) limped all the way home. So Buick doctors, please give me some more advice. The car does not go to the shop and I do all the work myself with no help, so I'm begging for help now. Looks like I'm not going to make it to Temple with a car this time. :ball: 3 times to our Buick Bash in Temple and every time bad runs. Car has not made a 1/4 mi. run in the 3 years I have owned it. I would hate to have to become a soccer mom because I can't run with the big Buick boys (BBB). :ball:
If I had the chance to drive your car, I'd show you how it should be driven!!!! :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:    I'd love to drive a car that doesn't die on me! ou:  PS From my other post, bet you can guess the GS won't even make it to Temple now. Thank you for the offer of your trailer though! You take such good care of me! :TU: :beer
Dee-- sounds like you may have unseated the distributor cap when you added the spacer. No other reason why a piece of hose next to the distributor would make a difference. Like James said, there is no better opportunity to get the car right, with the best Buick (and Olds) minds in Texas there to trouble shoot, and spare parts galore. Put things back to where it runs right for driving, and get it down to Temple. I will have spare fuel pump (non-Stage), James should have a Stage pump, I will have a spare Q-jet and probably several spare distributor/ignition set-ups (HEI and points.) Like James said, don't make me
Update on the Burgundy GS New motor is in and runs well. Oils pressure is great! It is running a little hot, but only heats up at stoplights, so even if I don't get that sorted out by Saturdday, it shouldn't be an issue in the highway drive to Temple. On the trans issues I checked the modulator with the vacuum pump and it checked out fine. (As expected; part-throtle shifts have never been a problem.) Pulled a governor out of a 70 Electra trans and just need to stab that in. Hope that solves the problem... Hoping to FINALLY run a 13 at Temple!
Cap is fine and tight. I just pissed the car off for some reason. :af: When I put the distributor kit in it, I checked the shaft for play and it seemed fine. How easy should it be to move the advance weights? Thought maybe the springs were a little "soft" when I moved the weights and maybe getting too much advance? Just grasping at things now..... I do need a stock plug in for the ignition wire to the distributor (the little black plastic piece with the connector inside). I just have a spade connection on it right now, so that might be part of the problem (but not likely since it runs better like that than before). I have no problem if someone wants to come to my house tonight, tomorrow night or Friday night to look at it with me. You know I have finally given up if I'm asking someone to actually come over and help. :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: I do not trust the car to make it to Temple now. At least before it was reliable. :af:
Dee please trailor the car to temple. We have a great group of guys ready to throw parts spare parts at the GS (your Mechanics will be at temple)and your only a trailor away from bringing it. To heck with the race lets have a tuning session.... Ben Bring your too maybe we can wargame the olds also..... Dee, bring the car and we will make you the first recipent of the Broken spoke award ( it is not a bad thing Dee trust me). :beer
I don't know who wants to trailer my car there. David offered to trailer it back if I need. I shouldn't have to trailer it anywhere and it should drive fine! Do you think they would make an exception for me to get on the track super early for some TNT after parts swapping? I hate to go out there during time trials just for TNT. Do you have any extra little plastic plug in pieces for the ignition wire? That might be part of my cutting out problem I'm having now. After everything I've been through, I should have already proved myself enough to win the Broken Spoke award. Heck, I can't even get the car back home after a TNT session!!! Now THAT'S a "broken spoke"!
Dee, my thoughts are this: You have a perfect opportunity to have a group(think tank if you wish) to try to find out what the problem is. There are only three things that make a motor run that is Fuel, Spark and Air we can basically take away air so what is left is fuel and spark. James offered to bring a stage 1 pump. Nick offered some ignition stuff and a carb. Not only this but you have guys that are certified mechanics. I can name a few right off the bat that will be coming from Austin,Houston and DFW heck even Puddin from Tennessee. I honestly think there will be enough people there to help diagnose the problem. Now get it in gear girl.... :3gears:
