Squeaky seat belt retractor/Mystery solved!

  1. My driver side seat belt retractor has had an annoying squeaking sound to it for some time now, and some guys have offered suggestions as to what the problem might be. But likely no one would have guessed what I found it to be!

I pulled the cover, and nothing seemed unusual. It was mounted securely, and the retractor assy made no weird sounds at all. So I reached my fingers down under and around the frame to feel the bolt, and sure enough, it was actually in contact with the frame! I checked the passenger side, and could easily fit my finger tip in between the bolt end and the frame. Removed the driver side bolt, and the end of the bolt is all smooth and shiny from rubbing on the frame, and driving me nuts these past couple years. Don't know why I waited so long to look into this problem. Checked a few parts stores, no one carries these specific bolts, so I just cut off about 1/4" and reinstalled, problem solved... :Dou:

Now, about the rattle in the heater box...
And the squeak in the front suspension...

Glad to hear it wasn't a rodent.

Regarding you heater box rattle, see if it can be covered under warranty.
