With the hundreds or even thousands of satellites buzzing around in space..... That thing is a complete waste of tax payer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Ya man, it's cool, very cool.
It will also carry hypersonic missiles.

There is absolutely NO cool factor to that Pile Of Crap.... The money wasted of that is much better spent on the Thousands of Homeless American Vets...

I wonder why the article described the SR-71 Blackbird as "infamous"?

Or not spent at all, and maybe get the US national debt down a bit. For the record, I'm not opposed to supporting homeless veterans either.

Infamous.... My guess is no one saw it fly.

OK - but will it have a Buick powered Start Cart? GNX engines?

Good question, you should talk to the Air Force and volunteer
your engine. That won't work, start carts need two 455's. :D
Got a spare one laying around.:p

    dynaflow shiftless...

...waste is inherent with military contracts. I view projects like this thru a different lens. It's a concept, not a pilot for a fleet of replacements. JIMO...

For your information they used 425 nailhead motors in the start cart.

I hate to rain on anybody's parade, but the reason the 'Nails were selected was because they liked the Dynaflow transmissions. They didn't shift gears, and they felt it would be easier on the aircraft. I don't know what they used for transmissions when they went to the Chevvies.

Part two - IMHO anything travelling at SR-72 speeds unmanned is a missile, not an airplane.

The way I understand it, the biggest disadvantage to satellites is everyone knows their flight paths and when they're going over, so they can hide stuff. They've got a finite fuel supply, so adjusting their orbit isn't done too often.

With the plane, it can go anywhere, anytime, at a moments notice, and get what they need right now.

Wasn’t the SR-72 shown used as the model for the Dark Star aircraft Tom Cruise flew in Top Gun Maverick?

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

The 454'a used a TH-400 high gear only (locked and no shifting).
