Hi all. I have just been offered a original and complete Stage 1 engine w/a auto trans? Said not to have siezed, but have been sitting for some years and need overhaul. Have not seen the items yet, and wonder how can I possitively identify them as a Stage 1. (Block, head, carb. numbers etc). Did the Stage 1 come with auto trans? If so any difference from a standard TH400? Price $2000. Too much? Regards, Per. :beer :beer :beer
Way too much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless this is an engine you've been looking for............#s match your car..............sounds like it's $1,500 overpriced !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Tufbuick. I can most likely get the price down, and would like to have a look at it. An overhaul locally are normally a standard $ 100 per cylinder + parts, so if it only need rings, bearings etc, it might be worth it? What would be an acceptable price in Europe? I am still interested in how to identify it. Per. :beer :beer
I'll take a stab at it. The deck will be stamped with either: RS For 69 SS For 70 TS For 71 WS For 72 The distributor should be 1112016 for all except 69, and I don't recall that one. The carb should be 7040246 for 70, 7041242 for 71, 7042242 or 7042942 for 72. If you take off a head, the stage 1 valves (intake & exhaust) nearly touch each other. :bglasses:
Yes they did come with auto and they were different. "BB" tags or some in 71 carried the Olds W30 "OW" tag.
Thanks a lot for info. I've been told it is a 10:5 comp, (so it should be a 1970), and that it is turning over. Also said to have the original trans on it. Will hopefully have a look at it this week-end and will bring all your info with me. I'll be back with the result. Regards, Per. :beer :beer
