A friend of mine swithed to Stage 2 SE heads with Gessler porting and now his ET is slower. He wants to know what to do?

His combanation is 455 Wiseco .035 over, 12.0 compression. 508 cam strainght up, SP1 intake,950 HP Holley, HEI with MSD 6AL and Holley blue pump with 1/2" line.

He went from 7.30 in the 1/8 to 7.55.

I suggested jetting up since he has more flow. MAybe even a bigger carb. Also look at his plugs to see if they show lean

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

    2 cent ideas off the top of my head;

The RPM range has moved up and the converter/gear is wrong now.

    Fuel pump weak/not enough pressure.

    Jetting just plain off.

    Shift points too low?

Aluminum heads "absorb" some of the compression (heat loss), what was the CR before?

Three of the spark plug wires fell off!

Now the top of my head hurts!

    "CONVERTER-CONVERTER-CONVERTER"
My wagon ran 11.40's with STG 1 heads (11.20's with good air).
I put the STg 2 SE on, no other changes and my first pass at the GS Nats 3 years ago was 12.06 at 117 mph . it pull really strong after the first 100'.

I got a 3500 + converter and after working with the new converter, the wagon was running in the 10.80's for the rest of the year. 462 c i

I believe the conv. is a 3500 and the gear is 4.10.

I'll mention the other ideas to him and get the exact conv. size.

I will loan him my 1150 Dominator and the complete Mallory ignition system also.

    Thanks

    gotbuick What, me worry?

Don't do that. I tried a 1000HP Holley on the dyno and lost power compared to a smaller cfm Holley. Bigger is not always better.

Converter plays a huge roll. The power is made when the heads (Stage 2's) get breathing on top. So if your buddy is playing with low end torque RPM's then he's defeated the purpose of better flowing heads.

The list of parts sounds pretty good. I would concentrate on gears and a converter, especially if doing mostly 1/8 mile. :)
