Reviewing the measurements of the three scoops. The original type scoop is 4.5". The medium scoop is 6". And the tall version is 7.5".

In the process of making the tallest version of the scoop for someone. Will make a medium one next, and then post some pictures of it.

I was a fan of this car with it's old engine. Can't wait to see the new video from the track testing.

I really miss the old combo. It was a 464" non girdled 70 455 block. With 70 #1231786 heads that were put into a furnace, the ports were welded up, and then extensively ported, flow tested, and reconfigured flowing to 330 CFM. It looked and sounded tame. Before going to the aluminum block combo, it ran 9:80'S all day long, any time it went to the track. With a best of 9:75 ET. That combo is still here at the shop. The new aluminum block combo is a 530 ". Did not want to waste the cylinders boring it to the max. It has a set of TA "STREET ELIMINATOR" STAGE 2 heads and a roller cam that idles nicely at 1000 -1200 RPM. A sheet metal intake that can be adapted for a single or dual dominators. It is NOT a max effort race combo. It is still a street/strip application, in a heavy car with full interior. Exhaust system and mufflers, and a tight 3500 stall converter. Because it is still intended for street use. And does drive on the street. Only been to the track a couple of times. Having trouble getting the car to hook. Can't get a big enough tire in stock wheel wells. And the fact that the car is still pretty heavy does not help. We won't cut anything on the car to fit a bigger tire. It IS an original 70 BB GS. With the old 464" combo, it was getting 1.28-1.31 sixty foot.
Now, sixty foot it is in the 1.40 range. Losing a few tenths in the 60 FT. Spinning out of the hole. It has gone around 9:00 -9:20 ET and 144 MPH. We haven't been able to tune it and dial it in yet. Just getting "started" dialing it in. Going to have to work on getting it to hook with a small tire FIRST. Because with a small tire it is going to stay. No predictions on the final outcome. What will be. Will be.

Sounds like grid with traction will be the ticket to helping this

Well here is an example of the "medium" 6" scoop. Recently made as a favor to someone we know that is going to Florida for "Sick Week" this month, with his BB OLDS in a 67 Cutlass. Picture in his garage. It's slightly adjusted to fit the hood of the 67 Cutlass. And suits the car real well. Works great. We discovered On Ken Montour's car that the original STAGE 2 Scoop would lift bulge and bubble up at high speeds at the end of the 1/4 mile !! So much so that it looked like the scoop was going to tear off. LOL So the ones we are making are braced and re-inforced to prevent the lift, and distorting at high speeds. Not sure when we will be able to complete another "medium" scoop ? We have four major resto projects on the go. And a number BUICK, OLDS, SBC, anmd BB MOPAR engine builds on the go too, and all that takes priority. But we will put up pictures as soon as we complete another one.

The medium will work for me.
I wonder if it would be beneficial to run a center support at the front, for the taller scoops, like some of the mopar scoops?

What would be really cool is a lip around the inside leading edge like the originals had. If you could do that I would want one for sure in the small scoop. :)

We have a few original Kenne Bell STAGE 2 hood scoops that Jim Bell gave us. A few decades ago. They have "Kenne Bell" embossed on the original KB scoops. All three heights are an exact replica of the KB scoop in all respects. Just varying heights. From what JB told us, the factory original STAGE 2 scoop was actually made out of metal. He had them made in fiberglass. The one we made with added bracing. Tested on the blue car does not distort, bubble, or lift and shouldn't need a center support. But perhaps could be installed as an option.

OLDS buddy is doing well at "Sick Week" picked up with the scoop. And folks seem to like it. He is running 10:12 ET @ 132 MPH !!

I'm interested in a medium size scoop. What's the pricing? Not in a hurry if you need to make another run.

    Thanks,

We made several of each of the three different sized scoops. And they sold real quick. I have one regular stock height STAGE 2 scoop left. Someone interested in that one too. Will be making some more in the fall. Will keep you all posted when they are available. Thanks

That is actually a well known fact that the original Buick made Stage2 scoop is made in pretty thick metal. I have the Stage2 hood and metal scoop that Dennis Manner sent to Jim Bell and Pops. This is the scoop they used to copy the fiberglass that they sold. I also have a KB fiberglass scoop with their name on the back. I use that one as a display, while the metal Buick made scoop is on the car. And by the way, that original scoop measures in height from the top of the hood to the bottom of the top lip exactly 3:78”. The lip is exactly 1:4 inch inwards and 1:4 inch vertical.
    I could send pics if you’d like…
Dennis thinks they made anywhere from 2 (JB car and my KB/ Reynolds car) to maybe up to six. So far only two are known to exist.

I will add. This scoop and hood that Dennis sent to Jim Bell in 1970/1969 is a very high quality piece. When restoring the car the scoop did not need any mods to make it perfectly straight. All while the underside had marks from like a ball peen hammer. Or maybe from a metal stamping machine?

The original style Stage 2 scoops we made, are exact copies in size, shape dimensions as the ones Jim Bell gave us. We still have several of the original NOS KB scoops with the " KB name on the back" for checking comparison to the ones we made. To make sure they are the same. in all respects They are not copied from another after market scoop. They are based on KB STAGE 2 scoops. The original intent on making the molds was to make a tall boy scoop as see on Ken Montour's car. It wasn't with the full intent of making them or selling them. But several people have asked us to make them.
