Is anyone making a fiberglass hood with the Stage 2 scoop already installed? Or who is making a quality scoop to be fitted to the hood I have already? Any tip's on whether it's better to use on a fiberglass hood or just cutting up a steel hood? I want to match the color on the hood and the scoop so I prefer to not have any issues with the scoop cracking the paint.

Thank you in advance for any input.

VFN Fiberglass in Addison, IL offers Skylark hoods with Stage 2 hoodscoops, as one piece, as well as a bolt on Stage 2 hoodscoop to use on a metal hood.

I've installed more than a few Stage 2 scoops on metal hoods, for myself, and on buddies' cars, but if I'd do it again, I'd prefer the complete fiberglass hood with the scoop already built in.

The bolt on scoop only attaches with 6 or 8 flimsy metal clips, and is more for appearance than function, as it doesn't even fit flush to the hood surface, with too many gaps for air leaks to make a solid seal to the hood surface!
I'd give the bolt on Stage 2 scoop a B- or C for installation/fit/appearance, and at least a D for functionality.

Go with the complete hood & scoop, I think you'd like it better, overall.:Smarty:

Thank's for the reply. I contacted VFN and they currently don't offer a hood with a scoop. But they did say they could assemble one before shipping. They also said it would be almost $1000.00 with shipping to do that. I'm thinking maybe I will have to try and figure something else out. I might be mistaken but maybe I can get one made in sheet metal with some photo's and measurements to weld on to my steel hood for less than $1000.00 and have something I won't have to worry about cracking and warping.

I used a steel hood with a fiberglass scoop rivited on my car , Why work that hard and weld it?

Well the reason I am thinking about metal is I don't want to have issues with the paint cracking. From what I have read and from seeing some fiberglass scoop's on other cars the cracking in the paint seem's to be a real issue for a steel hood with a bolt on scoop. Plus from what I have read here the bolt on scoop from VFN fit's very poorly which to me say's there will be much more effort to install than just bolting it on. I am not having any luck finding anyone else who is making a fiberglass reproduction so my option's are somewhat limited. I guess what it boil's down to is I want to have a high quality finished product that will not be an issue in the future. This car has been a long term project and I am trying hard to make it the best possible finished product.

Mine has never cracked. Ive had it on the car for about 8 years. However I dont have it glued down or finished off to make it a 1 piece. I have it so that if I want to change it I can.

I don't see how a bolted on scoop causes cracks in paint?

Cracks are a problem when scoops are molded into hoods with fiberglass and filler.

The stage 2 scoop is a bolt on...........no cracks

I am 99% sure that everyone that has the stage 2 scoop has it bolted or riveted on. That's how they're meant to be attached. There are tabs that fold in, not out, so the bolts/rivets aren't out in plane view, if that's your worry. They all look great, professional, and like they're supposed to be there.

I guess I am a little different in how I want my car. I see the benefit of having a bolt on or rivet style scoop, but that is not what I would prefer. I did find a bolt on to use for a pattern and a friend of mine has a buddy that work's in a sheetmetal fab shop. I sent him an email with some photo's and some measurements. I heard back from him this morning and he is going to make me a sheet metal replica for $150.00 I know the bolt on is a little cheaper, but this way I can weld it on and mold it in for a better looking finished product without any worry about cracking issues.

Please post some pics of the metal version when you get it. I'm curious how he will handle the tapered, compound curves at the rear of the scoop.

A friend of mine is gonna make one for my car, cause $250 dollars + import taxes is somewhat high for the VFN scoop. (VFN only ships by UPS, and thats cost 150 dollars!).

What hood is used for a stage 2 setup? Does it start life as a GS hood or a flat Skylark hood?

A Flat Skylark hood is used.

I have a VFN GS hood but are gonna upgrade it with a Stage 2 scoop.

At least thats the plan, a friend of mine is gonna take a look at the car and take some measurements to see how it will look and fits.

We will see how it works out.
