Now that I have the correct wheels, I need to buy lug nuts. Can I use stainless steel lug nuts on aluminum wheels? Never had aluminum wheels so I have no idea... :Do No:

I want to use stainless lug nuts with my Centerline Convo Pro wheels. Will the two metals react and corrode? Anyone have any suggestions for brand of lug nuts? It'll be a street car, but I want to take it to the track occasionally.

    Thanks for your help!

It will corrode but will be fine with a little anti seize compound on the mating surfaces.

    Reynold:

Would I be better off with a high grade steel lug nut, or will it corrode just like the stainless?

If you tighten the lugs w/o anti-seize the mating surfaces will develop "electrolosis" just like aluminum does when left in the rain. Just apply a little anti seize to the lug seat area and you'll be fine. It also helps stop the lugs from sticking to the wheel making it easier to remove later. When two dissimilar metals are contacting each other, corrosion will develop. It won't be over night, but in time will develop. Anti seize compound will prevent it.

Ok, so it doesn't make any difference whether the lugs are stainless or chromed steel. Both will corrode because they're not aluminum. Now I understand.

Like everyone else, there's a lot of $$$ tied up in these rims and I'd like to keep them looking great as long as possible.

Thanks so much for your help!
