On a 430 engine, when the stock air cleaner housing is in place, there is a curved metal hot air tube that connects from the air cleaner down to the engine. With a Star Wars air cleaner is there a similar connection? Or is there supposed to be a cap over the opening on the engine where the hot air tube normally connects?
David, on a regular Star Wars car like my GS400 there's nothing like that from the breather. On a CA emissions car I think there was a rubber tube. Is it an emissions car?
No it's not an emissions car. So on your car, is there anything that covers the hole on the engine where the hot air tube normally connects at the flange?
OP is talking about the heat riser for the air valve on the snorkel. You can leave the tube off, since it is only directing heated air by convection from the shroud around the manifold, and not actually any forced air or closed plenum. If you find a metal cap that you can fit on it snuggly, you could do that or remove the shroud. (but risk breaking bolts)
Sorry to butt in - is there a connection to the SW for a breather from the valve cover? I've only seen a picture of one and it may have been a add on.
If I remember right, that boss was only used if the car came equipped with the Air Injection Reactor System. The '67 models not equipped with A.I.R. had a twist in valve cover breather only, no tube. Devon
1967 was the only year that the big block cylinder heads did not have the provision for heat tube to connect to the cylinder head to the center exhaust ports. The machined semi-circle was added to the center exhaust ports in ‘68 so the metal tube could be connected from the head to the air cleaner. The unmachined center exhaust port is Unique to ‘67 400 & 430: ‘68-up have the provision for the pre-heat shroud and tube:
Well that explains it...since mine is a '68. I didn't think Buick would have left it looking so unfinished. Maybe I can find a metal cap of some type to put over the flange so it won't look like something is missing.
