looking to start an engine that hasn't ran for 3 years. it is a 1972 buick 350 with the intake and carb off. it was wrapped up pretty well from the elements. anyone here have any tricks or secrets to this process?

new plus, points, condenser, plug wires, oil & filter. i would consider repriming the oil pump. remove the plugs and turn the engine over by hand using a socket + a johnson bar. maybe even squirt a little oil into each cylinder as u turn the crank

I would put some oil in each sparkplug hole and down the intake, too.. 2 or 3 days before trying to turn it. I've done this to at least three engines that sat for years and cranked them OK. I think Marvel Mystery Oil is best.

If the motor was in a car while it sat, watch out for OLD GAS.
