i had a 64 wildcat with a pertronix igniter and never had a problem,
i have a 70 wildcat with mallory dist and a 6A box and it has failed twice
i am in the process of going back to points.
    just my 2 cents worth

I recently put a points style distributor converted to electronic with the crane XR1 kit.
noticeable power increase (probably due to better timing setting), and easier to start

Yep, I did the same thing. Put in Crane XR1 kit, new plugs, new wires, new dist cap and Ignition coil and I can smoke the tires now. Gave my car a big power increase. Before all this, I could not even lay rubber even though I have posi!!!

    Crane XR-1 here also.

I did throw the points etc. in the glovebox just in case.

Installed a Pertonix in a 67 and no problems.
