I have a 1972 skylark and the front Drive side Disc is intermittantly sticking. I will drive the car after sitting a week or so apply the brakes and the drivers side brake pad will not full retract. It heats the wheel and pad up so you can smell it and it only takes a mile or 2 to get real warm. Anyways if i park the car let it cool down and run it again it seems to work fine.

Everything is clean and the Fluid is full, and i am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. Is there a fix you would suggest? or trouble shooting tips? I want to try and fix this myself if possible.

i know how to replace Pads and do a brake job, but have not encounter this type of problem on any car I have owned in the past

    Thanks,

    John

I have a similar problem with my 92 Chev 1/2 ton. The only way I have been able to fix it is to do the front brakes again, including new/rebuilt calipers. Real PIA but nothing else seems to work.

Check the brake hose, if original, replace them both.

It could be a bad caliper. We had a similar problem on an 88 Cutlass Cierra - that turned out to be one of the metal bushings was binding (the bolts that hold the calipers on go through them). One was pitted. I got a couple new ones, and greased them up well - no problem afterwards.
