Hi, as some of you are aware I am transplanting a big block into the sportwagon in the Avatar. I was going to put a mild stage motor in but things fell through so at the last minute I bought Scotts 464 motor built buy Jim Burek. I would like to use my Stock GS air Cleaner, is their any way to modify it to sit on the sp-1 intake with a Demon 1000? Or plan B, put a B4B on the motor with a q-Jet and eliminate the problem. Would I kill the performance of the motor going to the B4B Qjet combo? I want to appear as stock as possible. Of course anyone that knows buick can see a sp1, but I would like to hide it the best I can under the stock air cleaner. I am going to lengths to paint the intake & aluminum heads and to ad some stelth. No one here where I live knows enough about buicks to spot a stage 2 heads, but the aluminum is a dead give away that is is not just a hot stage 1. I have listed the motor below. Really want to look stock but go fast...

    464ci engine.
It makes 597 HP @ 6000 RPM and 568 TQ at 4600 RPM

    It was built by PAE.

The details are as follows -

Heads & valvetrain- Ported TA stg 2 street eliminators. Flow is 317 cfm intake, 260 cfm exhaust.
T&D roller rockers (the silver and gold ones)
Poston "Buick" valve covers, black powercoat finish

Intake - port matched TA SP-1

Carb - 1000 cfm race demon

Block prep - 3/4 fill of hard blok, bored .038" over

    Cam - Straightline performance 254/268 @ .050, .550/.575 lift 112lsa

Crank - stock crank, knife edged, lightened by 6 lbs. rods turned .100" under for BBC rods

    Rods - Eagle H-beam BBC rods, 7.100"

Pistons - Ross reverse dome pistons, 11:1

Exhaust - TA Super Competition stg 2 headers, 2 1/8" primaries, 3.5" collectors. Ceramic coated by HPC.

Bearings - 3/4 grooved mains, grooved cam brgs

    Thanks

    Dennis

You are not going to be able to modify the stock air cleaner to work with a SP1. It becomes a tight fit with just an Edelbrock Performer.

You will have to get a drop base air cleaner just to put an air cleaner on the engine. They are on ebay all the time. I bought one and actually cut it another 1/4" to 3/8" lower to make sure I had enough room, about 1/2", between the hood and top of the 3" air filter so that it didn't rub against the hood.

Here's a link to one on ebay now:

Sorry to give you the bad news.

    Drop base air cleaner bottom

Dennis, I have a chrome drop base air cleaner bottom that I would trade you for a "non-drop" chrome unit. The one I have is identical to the one pictured in the link. The drop base comes from a Buick air cleaner that I bought new from Alan Faircloth a few years ago, but since I have a stage II hoodscoop, cleanance is no longer a problem. I would just send you this one, but I do need a base of somekind.
    Let me know if interested.

    Base

    Thank Paul,

But I think what I am going to do is run the Sp and the Demon. I dont think this will accept a drop base? After really thinking this over and how to look stock, what I plant to do is run a low profile aircleaner that will fit under a Stock GS dual snorkel air cleaner.
Hold on guys, I know this sounds funny....

I will cut the bottem out of the GS air cleaner set up so it will drop completley over the Air cleaner and Float bowls. I will run a small enough diameter air cleaner that I can leave the radius lower edges on the GS Air cleaner as to not give away it has been cut.
I will tack the GS air cleaner lid (pie plate) to the lower dual snorkel half form the inside. Now it will be one complete piece that drops over the "real air cleaner" .

I think this may work, what do you guys thinK. I have a really good fabricator that works for us so I think we can do this.

    Valve covers

One other thing, the valve covers.

Can I modify a stock valve cover to go over the Roller rockers?
It would be really nice to put a stock appearing valve cover on too.

On the 67 I had with a 455, he had used stock 400 valve covers and an extra gasket (or maybe two) to get enough clearance to clear the roller rockers. Looked very stock. I can send you a picture in the morning if you like.

I believe that T/A sells a spacer that allows you to run the stock valve covers.
