Ok, I'm restoring a 74' 455. I've recently had the Heads redone, new springs, new valves(large valves, or Stage 1)? 2.125 and 1.750. also shaved down. I' need to store these heads for a month or so outdoors in unheated garage. If I rub the valve side down with Lithium greese and wrap in plastic and store in tote in shed will they be ok. Also rub the spring side down with oil first.????
I would simply spray them down with WD-40. Then wrap them up good. Why must they be stored outside? You don't have room inside for 2 heads, somewhere?
Here's an idea: Do you know anyone with access to a vaccum pump? I work in the composites business; we use vacuum bags to process parts in an autoclave all the time. You make up a bag out of nylon film and essentially craft tape (the sticky gooey 1/8" black mess that comes in a roll, sold under the name 'tacky tape' at craft places), place your part in the film as it's laid out flat, place a vaccum tube (a simple check valve attached to copper tubing, with a vaccum fitting on one end) on the tacky tape, 'envelope' bag the parts by pulling the free edge of nylon film over the part and sticking it onto the tacky tape, and then hook the vacuum tube fitting up to your vacuum pump. Once all the air is sucked out I can't see how rust would form
A good women will always let car parts in the house. Mine laughs and says she going to report me to autoholics annonomis. o No: Spray with WD-40, bag then tote they will be OK. Just clean mating surfaces with solvent before assembly. What you dont clean off will burn off (smell funny and some smoke)
Merry Christmas to me! Put them in a box wrap them up in Christmas paper then store in the house where they belong.
