i straight piped my skylark this week-end...for a single exuast 350 with stalk manifolds and stalk everything else..... wow.. that thing is damn loud and acctually sounds pretty good.. not much back wrap and when its in gear at idle u can realy ehre that cam....i figured it would be loud and sound ok but damn..
Id atleast throw a backwards cherry bomb on there. [ backward so its still a straight through pipe.] It will still sound neat but pass a visual.
yea thats what i was planning to do becuase even when i do tale my foot off the gas its still loud as hell...and becuase the day after i dtraight piped it my school had police there doing safety checks.... i thought that was kinda weird..
The day before I got duals on my LeSabre, I hacked the pipes off... I was SO cool driving down the road rattling my own teeth out. It did sound mean though:Brow:
safety checks / drug check same thing. Once in the car they snoop. Espically if your under age. The school can give the cops permission to snoop. They used them at my old school for that. Even getting people for smoking. You can't have that stuff on school property by law if your under age. ------ One of my first cars was a 72 charger with header and galss packs that ened under your seat. It was even better as the headers were flat sided and rusted out at the bottoms of the turn. Guys loved it, girls hated it.
I am going to take a old muffler, cut the top out of it and remove the baffles. Then I'll stick a piece of tube through it and reconect it as usal the cutout won't be visible from under the car. It will look like there is a muffler but it won't realy be hooked up. I will get dual 3" exhaust later, but with a stock buick 350, I don't think it would benefit from that. I'll wait till my motor is built up and I realy need the flow. For now it will make it sould more healthy rather than silent.
My Riviera was Straight piped (well, it had a Cat)... came out right between the drivers and rear seat, directly in the middle of the car. It wasn't that loud... but with all the smog equipment on that '85 307, I wouldnt expect it to be. It blew nice flames if I could get the engine to richen up briefly
i currently dont have a drivers side exhaust on my dual exhaust 350 lark. it happend to fall off when i was driving to work one morning anyhow, it was cool for the first five miles or so back to my house, but after that, it got really obnoxious. even more so at low rpms. kinda hard to take off from a stoplight if theres a cop sitting next to you. ou: before you put too much work into it, leave some room to change if you end up not liking it. :TU: pete
haha, that happened to be about two weeks before i put a new exhaust on my car. right exhaust pipe seperated at a junction between the down-pipe and the rest of the system. just hit a bump one day, and dang it got loud fast. me and a friend just kind of looked at each other funny while i pulled over.
thats exactly where it broke off. it freaked out the people around me more though. i didnt get to see all the sparks fly  people were looking at me kinda funny. i was just happy it wasnt rush hour. i got off the freeway pretty quick. pete
how much power do u acctually lose?.. and how much would i gain by throwing a flowmaster 40 series on there.. not duals just one for now... also what would that sound like?
to me with single exhaust I don't want a mufler becuase it jut to quiet, but I know the 40's are loud. I am going to save up for a dual 3 inch instead of spending money on the single.
loud isnt everything though. you dont want to get the attention of the wrong people. (cops and rice). and being loud doesnt mean more power either. i had a 6 banger ford ranger with a three inch exaust and flowmaster. and while it sounded cool, it seemed to have lost some torque. o No: i dont know what the wouldbe on the buick, but it may be worth looking into. and one thing for sure, if it is loud, and you do happen to race some rice, make sure you win! otherwise, its just as bad as one of them fart pipes! ou:
around here ricers dont race muscle cars becuase they say its unfair...and if they did i dont think ill have to worry much.
Some times it's better to not be loud, It's just that with a sigle exhaust and a stock muffler I can barely hear it. I tried it out with only manifolds and it sounded good at idle i had less power when I tried to dive it. My guess is too low of compresion, I know done up motors would have loved that. I'll wait till I'm making some power before geting the 3" duals.
