I'll never eat jalapeno chili from a food truck again. I didn't make it home before the bomb went off and ruined the seats. But seriously... I have these '66 strato buckets I want to put in my '65. The frames are good and solid, the springs are toast. The metal backs and lower sides are not rusted but they do have scratches and small dents. One of the sides is missing too. I'm wondering if I should just get the OPG components and assemble all new seats....or just strip them down, sandblast them, buy the rest as repop parts and take them to the upholstery shop. Anyone have experience with the aftermarket seats at OPG or otherwise? @Topcat can you post pictures of your front and backseats so I can see what they are supposed to look like with out the chili stain?
Then and Now Restoration did a stitch by stitch re-creation of the 66 Cat deluxe seat covers ! Peace WildBill
I think if you are going to strip down, sand blast, etc. You may as well put seat buns and covers on too. It's easy enough I thought. I guess unless you don't plan on restoring back to oem. Seems like you would have done the hard work then handed over to a shop for the easiest part.
Some repop springs are good, some aren't. Sundell sells good ones for the later cars, they may have them for your 66. Call and see. https://sundellauto.com/ Its not hard. I did my frames/springs.
Good to know; - I just picked up some 65 Wildcat buckets that I'm planning on using in my Electra. Most of the springs are still there, but they're pretty rusty, the seats are roached, but not quite as bad as those Strato buckets are. Now to find the proper pattern and the right colour upholstery; - WildBill's Topcat above looks like the right colour. Is that known as "dove" in 1966?
