Hi guys, I apologize in advance for the blasphemy, because I understand it is somewhat controversial. But I'm European and it's my car I have a 1969 GS 400. After years of restauration work on it, it is finally at the painter. Couple of days ago it received an epoxy coating. I'm going for a titanium grey on it and I want white "chebby"-like stripes on it. Sorry, don't like the Buick stripes. This is somewhat the look I'm going for: But obviously I don't have a flat hood and trunk lid as this car has. I have the ram air hood like this one, with the pretty narrow space between the scoops: and trunk lid like this one: Are there guys with (similar) stripes on these parts? I'd like to know how it looks on these raised areas. and also across the scoops.
In my opinion chebby stripes on a Buick are quite wrong. As an attractive alternative, I offer the Motion stripe idea. It works well with the ram air hood. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/buick-community-helped-restore-rare-gs/ http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/69-motion-equipped-resto.334097/ (Of course, don’t put the Motion emblems on it). Patrick
Well, I've made a sloppy mock up of the trunk: I like it. Paint skills of the front: I think I can live with that. Can't make a real mock up as the hood is at the painter right now. Sorry guys, I think it's going to be something like this
So far your car looks great, it’s your car do whatever you like but get ready for a lot more nice Chevelle comments then you would’ve had otherwise.
It may look different from the mock up when you try to make straight lines on contours like the scoop. I would suggest laying it out with tape first and looking at it from all angles. I still think you should incorporate the scoop into the stripe. Patrick
Yes, I think I like this better: That definitely is a good idea. I will be present when the painter is going to tape. Then we can see in real life.
