What do you get with the stroker kit exactly? Trying to work out a budget. I think the only thing I will use is the block.

I think it was pistons, pins, crank, rods, bearings and rings.

What sort of rods are they?

Jim's right, call them, because the kit can be modified to your needs. 480-922-6807 or www.taperformance.com
When I did my motor, it came with JE pistons ( .038 over ), wrist pins, Total seal rings and Crower rods ( 7.1" long ). I used my crank, so that saved a few $$$$. ordered my bearing afterward since my crank needed to be turned an undetermined amount.
What parts have you amassed so far? WE NEED DETAILS!!!!

    That's what mine came with.

I'm guessing the time zone, and long distance costs from Australia issue makes calling tricky.

Not to hijack the thread too badly... but what kind of cam are you all running with the stroker? (in planning stages myself)

Currently running a TA 608 hyd. but will be switching to something a little bigger like a TA 508 solid lift.
    You can email them~~~ TAPERF@aol.com
I'm sure they will be willing to help and mention your on this board.

    Kelly,
I will end up with the block and maybe the crank from the donor engine. Have not made a descision on heads yet(any ideas?), but will run sheetmetal tunnel ram(already have TA plates for manifold) Maybe Poston GS 107 cam or TA 290-08 cam.

If you can swing it, TA is having a sale for all BPG members on the Stage1 Aluminum heads.....something like $600 off !!!

....Makes joining the BPG a no-brainer.....plus all the other benefits that come along

I emailed TA but their reply was vague. The didn't tell me what sort of rods or wether I get bearings. They also said they would need my crank as a core. From Australia to US and back again?

just go buy the AL heads ..you get more bang for the $ if you know what I mean the Al heads are supposed to add 60hp and the stroker only 40hp.Right now the heads are a $700 cheaper or so. First add the heads than go with a stroker if you need to go faster.

I used my core and had it offset ground to 2" Chevy which is what is done in the 494 crank. The rod journals on the crank are widened to fit the new rods which are .940 wide each X 2 = 1.88. Then you add the neccessary rod clearance and the rods are way to big to fit on the standard width on the crank. I'm going to cut the side faces of the rod to fit the standard width on the crank(since the crank's already done). That way I don't cut anymore out of the crank and I'd have to have it turned down again to .020. I spent about $450 having my crank done and now I have to have the rods cut to fit the crank(width) so I really didn't save any money on using my own crank. Sounds a little unusual that TA doesn't have any cores. I see them listed on ebay often.

Hey thanks for your input guys it does help. I will run ally heads, prolly stage 2 SE. I have to have that stroker purely because it sounds tough. Would a 30 over 494 come close to 500cui?

A 494 is .038 over with a .250 stroke added to the crank.
