Hi, I have a billet 4340 stroker crankshaft for sale. It's a nice piece, Crower # S166752-1, 4.400" stroke. I bought it brand new. Damage: I had some oil starvation issues and lost a rod bearing. I had one machinist tell me it could be polished and ran without issue. I had another machinist tell me it should be ground and re-heat treated. Both are reputable race engine builders in the area with literally decades of experience. Let's assume it should be reworked. The more conservative machinist (the one that recommended the grind) meased 0.008" wear at the worst location. He also magna-fluxed the crank and gave it the OK. I have the paperwork from his shop, attached as a picture. Prior use: I ran this crank for a summer of mixed use (I don't race, but went to the track once). Ultimately I had a oiling problem and lost a rod bearing. I've decided to take the project in a different direction and go back to a stock motor. Modifications: the crank was balanced internally with billet big chevy rods. IMPORTANT NOTE: we also modified the snout to accept standard chevy harmonic damper (I ran a high quality ATI unit). I will include the rods with the sale of the crank for free. They are 6.800 RPM rods with ARP2000 bolts. 3 of them are blue on the end due to the heat from the failed bearings. I included a picture of the worst one. some would consider the rods junk but some would measure and run them in a pinch. Up to the buyer. they are free. I'll scrap them if the buyer doesn't want them. I measured the following with calipers: Rod journal 2.200 Main journal 3.250 Snout 1.439 Price: According to the TA website the new price is $3,625 plus shipping. I'm not sure how to price this - seems like $1,900 is as good a starting point as any. Even with machine work a guy could save a lot over a new crank. If you have any questions give me a call at 503 805 8341. Thanks for looking. Ben
Ben, Put me in line for the rods and maybe the pistons. Depending on the crankshaft weight I might be interested in the whole package. Thank you
Ok thanks for the interest guys. I'll try to weigh the crank this weekend (I don't have a scale at my house). Come to think of it, I should probably go get a bathroom scale for other reasons (haha). I forgot to mention that the pistons are hung on the rods still, they're nice custom JE flat tops. they go with it too. valve pockets cut for stage II SE. One of them has a broken ring land (classic detonation), the rest look fine. I'm 90% sure I have extra new pistons (I recall buying 10), but I have to dig a bit.
Just curious.... How did you adapt the Chevy balancer? Your measurement of the snout is standard Buick.
Good point. I recall now that the adapting took place on the front side of the balancer. It had to do with my oil pump drive and pulleys. Been a few years. Thanks for pointing that out. Ben ---------- Post added at 09:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 AM ---------- 85 lbs
Ben, I talked with Cody today and he said he was going to pass. I was waiting for his reply to say that I would take it for $1900. Sorry, I did not want to answer for Cody. Let me know, Thanks
John if you want to sell the crank (if you just need the rods/pistons) let me know. I still have those rods and pistons at finishline without a crank.
Thanks Cody!!! Herb, I will let you know! Ben, let me know what the shipping charges will be to Parma, OH 44129 Thanks
