Saw a POS skylark in the Bradenton U-Wrench-It yard. Looks to be a suncoupe. Car was labeled 1971 in spray paint, I didn't check the trim tag, not sure which year.

Only good thing on the car is the roof. Vinyl is shot, cross pieces seem to be there, i suspect all the parts are there. Couldn't do a real good inspection since I don't jack about them.

I may be able to get there tomorrow or Friday, if not George nenadowhatever (Gstage1?) may be going there Saturday.

    Anybody need something?

I scored a real nice grille off of that car a couple of weeks ago.Got it for KennyGS72 up in Atlanta. A real rust bucket. I considered cutting the roof off but decided to pass. Someone else beat me to the power window and power doorlock setup and tilt column. There was an unbroken pass. tailite lense in the trunk. A rusty GS hood was leaning against the car when I got the grille. The Copher yard in Tampa has a clean '72 Electra coupe and a '66 Skylark 4dr hardtop. Ted

    Junkman --

Might be worth your time to visit george's site for the Tampa Bay junkyard report --

    http://pw2.netcom.com/~gnenad/junkyards.html

-- could save you a trip to some yards, and might save / motivate other folk if you can post what you find and where. Especially now that U-Wrench-It has upped their admission to $2.

Did you see that almost-showroom 68 Rambler "700 Classic" in the Bradenton yard? Looked ready to drive right out. Might not be worth much, but a pity to see such a clean car in there.

Also, you pick up that 70 Riv from WPB yet? I need a few minor parts.

Steve, haven't got the 70 Riv yet. Was told it won't be ready to pick up until after Saturday. I travel around a lot and get to most all of the local Tampa yards on a regular basis. I frequent many yards on the east coast, all the way up to Maine ! I have directions to a yard in central Pa. that is only open on Saturdays. That yard is supposed to be full of 40's50's60's stuff. I plan to check it out this March, when I go to upstate NY.Will have a digital camera, too. Ted

    You guys killlllllllllllll me!

Sheesh! Went to the yard today!

Car was(what was left of it) a 72 SunCoupe. Nothing left. Car was from Michigan which accounts for all the rust! Someone did take the rear. Car was drum brakes.

70 Riv (not 68) had rear defrost, tilt, deluxe seat belts, speed-alert. Column was so rusted to the floor that I left it alone. I left the speed-alert because I did not want to monkey with it! Car has a 455 and is correct SF code 455. Hmmmm, somehow the car ended up with Stage1 heads and a newer timing cover! I don't know how but those heads, intake, exhaust manifolds followed me home! :Brow:

Couple rows over was a 64 (not 62) Skylark convertible. Top mechanism is gone, so was the entire front clip. The boxed frame is rusted behind the driver's door. Cross member looks good.

Couple rows behind the 64 is a 73 Regal wagon with pw, pdl, (I took the tilt
and 4bbl carb), 350/TH350, clean car.

Also, they had 56 GMC and a 71 Chevy C-10

Just a word to the wise, don't trust the numbers the yard personel write on the car, most of the time they get the old cars wrong by several years!

    George --

Junkman and I were talking about a 1970 that junkman was picking up elsewhere.

The car I mentioned to you on the phone was a 1969 Riv -- pretty easy to tell the difference from a 1970, especially since I own a couple 1969's. It was in about the same row as the suncoupe. had 69 grille pieces, 69 wheel trim, 69 dash, a 430, and 69 wheel wells. Pretty custom if it was a 70.

So what happened, they received a 1970 in the past couple days? The row just past the sunbncoupe was empty the last time I was there.

Is the suncoupe mechanism shot beyond repair, in your opinion? Or did it look like junk?

Well, the SunCoupe was completely shot.......can't determine if more of the car is gone or still there!

I got a nice headlight switch bezel and plunger from the SunCoupe.
The mechanism is shot. I was going to remove it and then said....not worth it.

The Riv I found, silver/gray with black interior, had missing front seats, tilt column. Yard personel marked it as a 67 or 68. Well, it is definitely a 70 455 engine. I check the heads and intake, definitely 70. Engine code was SF which indicates 70 Buick 455. I did not check the cowl tag. I took the top half of the engine.

Maybe it was a 69. I am not an expert on the Rivs. Car had a vinyl top and was completely rusted through. Looks like it was a nice car that fell in the wrong hands.

As im reading this im hating the midwest more and more. Never and i mean never could we go out every weekend to several different yards and expect to find old buicks. Second, I dont think I would EVER find stage 1 heads. George, what are you going to do with them I might be interested. You guys have it good. :beer :TU:

Going to use the heads for a Stg1 I am going to build.

Also the 70 Junkman is getting was sold here in StPete new, was a friends shop before Donny got it. I had no use for it so I passed on it.

Boattail, you can check the Junkyard Report for cars in our area.
If you need anything, let me know before Sat, Fri 11pm Eastern is best.
I will take your parts wanted list with me and see what I can find.

You can email me direct at GStage1@buickperformance.com

There was a really ruff ,white '69 Riv. there that had a 455 in it.Every piece of trim was pitted and rust out on all panels. Also had a set of rally wheels w/caps.Wheels and caps were rust/pitted.Seems like it had iron drums instead of aluminum on the front, too. Must of went into the crusher.

    George --

Yeah, that's the car -- nasty old 69 that must have had an engine swap over the years. :Do No:

I only did a breeze-by of the yard with no tools in hand on my way to Tampa, so I didn't really study it, and didn't really even glance at the engine.

Never could get back to the yard during the week even though I tried to free up time -- just too busy. Good score.
