I need a source for the small retainer clip that holds the speedometer drive gear on.

    Also need the drive gear.

Cannot upload a photo at this time, but if you look on page 74-66 of the 1966 service manual ther is a picture of it.

Anybody know if this might be the same drive as a power glide?

    Thank you

Gears, I think I might have a cap retainer. I was digging through a bunch of junk and thought I saw it. When we stopped building the 300 and started with the 350 in the Transmission plant at The Buick in Flint I think they used the same speedo driven gear. I'll look around.

Thanks, if you don't find one, any idea who might have one for a 350?As popular as the 350 is it might still be available. Thanks again

Bet you can get that at any transmission re builder.

So far I've contacted a transmission rebuilder, CARS, Inc., and about everyone listed on the I-net that is remotely related to ST300 parts all to no avail. Found one guy who makes a reclaibration kit that includes the needed clip, but it's $80.00 and he doesn't have the clip alone.

Tried speedometer rebuilders here, and am now going the junkyard route. Hopefully something will turn up.

Still can't upload pictures, and yes I'm using the manage attachments feature. All I have is a file of previously uploaded photos. This is very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Gears. I looked all over the place and can't find the plate, bracket or whatever. If Bruno doesn't have what you're looking for I could make you one if I have the dimentions. Maybe I pictured it in my head when you mentioned it and thought I had one. With a Brane like mine you never know.

Ponch, I think he's looking for the steel clip that holds the drive gear to the output shaft itself rather than the clip that holds the driven gear sleeve to the output shaft housing.

Hi Devon, If that's the case then good luck. The retainer (Tail Shaft) will have to come off to access it. It'll have to come off an old Trans but I still think the 300 is the same as the 350. The output shaft is the same Dia for both. The retainer will have to come off and the little clip on the gear will have to be pressesd down while moving the gear. With all the TH350s laying around it shouldn't be hard to find one.

If in fact, it is the same as a THM350, then it should be readily available. I wonder if Gulfgears is asking for the clip from a THM350, or a ST300 when he has tried to source it.

Gulfgears, What's the answer. You have plenty of help here, can you clarify what you're looking for?

Something's up with the board software right now.

After you click "reply" but before you start typing a reply, click "go advanced" at the bottom right, then proceed with typing.

    Thanks Devon,
I figured out my picture posting problem. When you upload a picture that you have previously uploaded in the past, the software uses the one it has stored from the past. About 2/3's of my stored pictures are blank. The names are there, but the pictures aren't.

Larry, All of my pics came through but I only have maybe 15. I usually Delete mine if there's no Question, Answer or I see the Question being answered Two or Three times in Six Months or so. I figger why clog up the Board with my stuff when there's always someone willing to answer it again. I did a lot of it before the changeover. I asked Jim about why it comes up as Deleted now. Who Knows.

Good luck with the pictures problem, I can't get anything to load, says the files are too big, even on things I have previously loaded. I need to figure out how to delete all my photos and start over.

I found the clip locally. I took Ponch65's suggestion and found a clip for a 350, it looks like it will work. In the process of looking for the clip I stumbled onto a little four bay garage operation where the guy is building Chevy engines. This guy had a 572? with Patriot aluuminum heads, a bunch of high dollar small blocks and all kind of Chevy speed equipment.

I asked the guy about the clip, and he said to come back tomorrow as he might have one. Well he went to a guy he knew who builds transmissions, found the clip and then refused to take any money for his time and efforts. Don't meet guys that nice to a stranger everyday!

Hopefully this will all work out.

Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate the suggestions and offers of help very much.

I figured out my picture problem. When you click Manage Attachments, it shows you all the pictures that you have posted in threads previously. If you go to post something that you have already posted, the system goes into that folder and posts the picture. About 2/3's of my pictures were corrupted during the transfer. The picture file names are there, but the pictures are gone (blank) When I tried to attach one of those pictures, it used the one that was blank. I asked Jim to delete them so I can re post them if I want to.
