Agreed. Also doing some nailheads. One is using 6.535 and - .040" bearing with the difference made up in stroke minus .005"/side for wear...a forged BBC +.100" piston ($200, lol), trimming .020-.030" from the quench part of the piston to leave .035" to head.
444 cubes appx. and heads that will do anything anyone else's have.
I have some BBC alum rods w/ 2.100" journals that could make things interesting, esp. if I weld up the crank and relocate the oil galley.
Maybe someday I'll make the time to carve up more billet heads but I have no plans to market them, or make a batch of roller cam blanks.
    Pet projects... :)

You already disregarded the nitrous idea, but with a "100 shot" I've been 13.13 @ 101mph weighing in at 4350lbs. I think I'm in my whole setup for about $450, between the NOS kit and Edelbrock plate. It's definitely a cheap way to make power, and certainly feels peppy enough on the street NA. Just a thought...

well another reason Is may want to road course it a few times also. like I said if I can make a honest 350 rwhp at na I may just go that way. of course that100 shot would put my car prob in the 11s being 500 lbs lighter or more than yours. I like the turbo idea but I don't like the clutter that comes with it. maybe a sts style rear set up would get my bag.

If you want to do a pro charger, do one. I run a Borg warner turbo on my nailhead and was told on this website it could not be done and hold together. I drive the car all the time and beat the crap out of it. You can run your stock piston but keep air fuel ratio to 10:8 -11:00 at wot under boost. I used a msd 6 btm with a boost reference for timing and can pull timing out per the pound of boost. I use a a1000 fuel pump but do have a rework boost reference pump for a nailhead. pd over $500 that I would sell. key with fuel is using a boost reference fuel regulator and a big return line. I run a blow thru carb and it works great. Not one issue ever. I have a fast 02 sensor setup that I moniter when tuning. I run a 4150 holley and a ev carb hat. I did call ross and they made me a set of pistons but had to fiddle with size to use a total seal ring. I think I am .23 -.22 ring gap. had comp cut me a custom cam , 550 of lift with 114 lsa. have the cam card somewhere, don't remember the duration off the top of my head. I have had my turbo setup done for a few years and learned a lot. Not a fan of rear mount sts. I did it and hurt the motor, oil pooling is a problem. If u want to run a turbo I can modify a stock set of manifold and put vband flanges on the end of them and build your setup from their. With a turbo at 10-12 PSI no reason u wouldn't have a mid 11 car. I mph 115 and ran a 13.0 with a 2.5 60ft on a street tire and had bad wheel hop. (adjustable upper control arms helped ) I had a bunch of tuning issues because I just installed AIS meth injection. one thing to consider is turbo use oil to cool so u go procharger or turbo use a oil cooler.

well I really like the feel of a sc better to drive. ive driven both. nothing as crazy minus the diesel truck I had as a nailhead. nothing as crazy that was gas. either way I need lower comp pistons so I will prob pony up for them forged ones. which company does them for 600?

Paul is on the money. That is almost the same setup that I ran in my 455 when it was carbureted. It even sounds like the cams are close.

If you already have an MSD box you can run the BTM just fine. If starting from scratch get the new programmable box. Also a good hat helps. Up to 5 psi the hat does not make a big difference. Over that I think the hat is a big deal.

Another point is to run a big bypass or blow off valve. This is a big deal with a carb system. You have to make sure that you are bleeding off enough boost at cruise so you do not have pressure in the hat. This will mess up the operation of the power valve and drive you nuts. If you have FI don't worry about it.

Oil cooler with a turbo must be a good idea, Buick used them in the turbo v6. Same idea if you have a supercharger that uses engine oiling system like my D-1 does. Don't have it yet but looking for the right deal.

it almost makes me want a bbb really. I could make the power numbers easy and it would adapt to my 200-4r for next to nothing. I loose the coolness of the nail though then.

No! You can't walk across the street without tripping over a supercharged 455. There might be 7or 8 of them next year. :Smarty: How many supercharged nailheads are you going to see. You won't see as much HP as a 455 but the torque should be outstanding. Remember Buick made 700 ft/lbs with a 1963 turbo.

If you want to have a really fast car dump a turbo ls motor in the thing. :af: Then you can go compare belly buttons with Camaro owners.

I don't remember what they cost, but I have a set of Tom Telesco's forged pistons in my 425/now 431 Nailhead. While not supercharged, it does have a true compression ratio of 10:1. The pistons are a work of art. I have mentioned this before, but I asked Tom about ordering one more just for display. Sadly, he talked me out of it. We may revisit this...

im def not going to a ls and very doubtful I would go 455 just saying it would save me money. I like both engines a lot though.
