Man, I hate SUVs. Big, ugly, expensive busses rolling around. Why? All it is is a pick-up with a back seat and an enclosed rear end for an extra 10-30 thousand dollars. I don't know. What do y'all think?

the mechanic i work with best friend has his hummer in the shop. it needs a starter, which costs around 400.00 bucks, not including labor. the hummer is truly an overpriced piece of junk!

I sort of liked the old Blazers & Broncos as a sort of a cool an unusual hmm I will say specialty vehicle. Then after the marketing people got a hold of them renamed them an SUV and made them the fashion craze that all the cow heard mentality had to have. I got sick of people who had no use for the 4 wheel drive truck platform buying them. Today I think of most of them as an overweight fuel sucking all wheel drive station wagon that yesterdays minivan owner has. That or you have the gold chrome and chain crowd that has to put 22 rims and spinners on that will break the first time they drive over a curb on their way out to use that 4 wheel drive feature. But hey gas is only 2.25 a gallon (even though the price of crude is down) and it has leather seats and a 7 disk cd playa.

ps But I think this craze has started on the down side of the bell curve and a good sign of that is that GM is dropping other interests developed by their car people and investing it in more glitz & glitter SUVs.

I think they have their purposes. Even though we don't have an SUV we do have a Caravan which I've hauled tons of stuff in like engines, bikes, furniture etc that would never fit in a sedan. Plus, unless you have a job or hobby that requires you to carry a lot of dirty or oversized stuff, the SUV is a little more practical then the pick up since its designed to carry both passangers and cargo. I know some people probably buy them for the wrong reasons but a lot of folks do things like that, and I'm not gonna make it my job to stop them.

I agree with you there, cars are starting to look the same. And if you do find one thats different, pretty soon someone else on your block will have one in the same color. I like my Denali. It does have a drinking problem, but i can compensate for that with a daily driver, which most BBB owners have. Then when its time to go racing, I can comfortably carry family and friends too.

Speak for yourself! Sure, in "America" (and I guess in Canada) you should be able to buy and drive what you want (free country) but does that mean everyone should be stupid sheep?

America imports approx. 65 % of its oil now compared to 37 % in 1973 (taken from a story on the nightly news and from USA today) which has led a group of former secretaries of defense to lobby President Bush for ways to cut our dependence on foreign oil. Still, every bozo and their uncle refuses to give up commuting 80 miles a day in their gas sucking SUV. Its selfish and irresponsable to say the least.

Sure, my Buick won't be a gas miser but its a hobby not a daily driver and I try to make up for it in my daily life by driving an s-10 instead of a full size truck, riding my bike or walking to the store and planning trips as not to waste gas and my next vehicle will be a diesel that I will convert to run on vegetable oil.

If you want to play you gotta pay and we can pay now by being smart and making concessions or we can pay later by being selfish and bullheaded. All I know is that if I'm forced to pay later because of other's stupidity I'm sure going to be pissed and I hope I can use the last drop of gas to run someones SUV right up their behind.

If I could afford one, I would go out right now and buy a deisel Excursion! I love the way they look. I love they way they ride and handle. With a few hundred dollars, they will run fast. The family would fit easily with room to spare on those long trips. I am sure it's safer in an accident. Yeah, it burns more fuel. But, look at all the waste this country has. It isn't just SUV's.

I wish we had one instead of my wifes car.I am 6 foot plus and all these cars are to small. In one of the suv at least there is legroom and your hips do not die. My pickup is great but not enough room for the family and luggage and stuff. Next outfit will be a 4 door full size pickup. We do not even have what most of you would call a city in North Dakota so that is not a problem. ED

    I Got 2

My driveway is graced with two of them, 2000 Blazer and an '04 Envoy. I drive the envoy for work purposes and to me it is like driving my living room couch. I have put over 10K on it this year and if I was driving a downsized front wheel drive econobox it would have been a miserable drive.

Next year my son will be getting the Blazer and there will another new SUV in the driveway.

Now think about this, how do you get the wife, two teenagers and a 120lb german shepard into a corolla? Life dictates the vehicle you have to drive.
Enthusiasm dictates the vehicle you WANT to drive, that is why there is a 68 GS Convertible in the garage and why your garages are filled with want satisfying toys

I have a XL Denali and a crew cab Silverado Z71. I love it. It's a lot of fun driving a 6000 pound 14 second machine that is super comfortable and handles well. I don't really care about the cost of fuel and I enjoy making jealous people mad. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.:Brow:

Point well made.........but you know what? They haven't made a decent car since 1972! That's the reason why people are buying SUV's! Our Tempo is a prime example of that........I could destroy that car with my bare hands if I wanted to (I actually did once replacing the headlight switch)

I can think of a lot nicer things to spend the kind of money on that these things cost........and it's nice not having to come up with a huge car payment each month. I love my Dodge Caravan (even though it's a POS) it handles nice, gets a smooth ride, and 25 MPG isn't too bad. If I want to go fast, I've got the Buick....which is faster than any SUV out there (although I heard BMW makes a real shaker :3gears: ) And the Buick prolly gets better mileage than many of the bigger SUV's. As for a diesel, they smell, the gas is more expensive, and I'd never own one......just my preference.

One thing I absolutely HATE about new crap is this.......those ultra bright headlights are great for the drivers........but they are ENTIRELY RUDE to the other people on the road who get blinded by them! And then if you need to replace a composite lens, better bend over! :moonu: At least if you drive a pre '87 you have real glass sealed beams! :spank:

Don't get me wrong guys, I like the Blazer, and the Bronco is ok for a Ford, but I'm talkin about these big Suburbans and Excursions that roll up and down the four lane and box in everybody in anything smaller than them. And these cell phones. They are ticking me off, too. I saw somebody the other morning driving with their knee, with a cell phone in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.

I like suv's. I like big and long vechiles, My brother has an 04 Sububran and its around 12 feet long and wide nice suv like driving a recliner. I would get one of those Dodge turbo cummins nice and long. But I cannot stand those H2's they look like toy cars. And they just look tough. The only thing on that car is metal is the bumper and I think the front end if I remember. The doors are plastic.

    Oh, I don't know -

    I think anybody that:
    a) has more than 2.2 kids
    b) lives out in the "boonies"
    c) pulls trailers often
    d) hauls a bunch of junk "oftener"
    e) likes having the additional space
    f) likes the additional safety features (ABS, Stability system, roof rail airbag, full frame)
    g) can afford it

    - could justify driving one. Not that they need to justify their choices to anyone else....

I see this here, too. The other day I saw a lady drinking coffee, chewing gum, smoking a cig and talking on her cell phone at the same time. I thought "man, how much 'oral gratification' can one person enjoy all at once?".
