What does everyone think of switch panels to start up electric items and the car? I think that they are a good idea and won't take away from streetability but I would really only need a few of the switches so I would like some feedback if possible. Thanks.
Car will be a street/strip car so there would be some racing. I would want a linelock switch, electric fan, maybe fuel pump if we don't use a mechanical one, and I like how easy the car starts with one in use. What else can a switch panel do?
Second post to you today! One about the ATI trans earlier. I ran a small toggle switch panel that controlled two electric fans, line lock and electric fuel pump. Never gave me any problem.
what else do you want it to do?? be careful though make sure you have a good junction block and fuse panel with all this extra wiring though... just my 2 cents. also if anyone ANYONE other than you is going to drive the car i would make some of the switches fail safe and not allow them to turn off critical systems sometimes (cooling fans etc) use a tempature sending switch in your coolant system line somewhere and a relay for example. buddie put switches for the cooling fans on his vette and the emissions guy turned them off and didnt have the front external fan set in front of the car. and he was not allowed to sit in the car during the test. When he got back in, every idiot light was on and every gauge pegged. was nice in the staging lines though to turn off the fans and leave one or both on, the fuel pump, line lock, various lights, turned off everything that caused the alt to run extra.
That would be most of what I would want switches for. There is one or two things that I'm forgetting.
First, the only person other than me that will be driving the car will be my dad if he wants to or if I get in trouble with it. So basically there will only be people that know what they're doing driving it. I don't plan on having a car that has to be e-tested or any of that crap. The law here says you have to get it tested when the car is 15 and 20 years old. If I were to get an old Skylark or '84 or older Regal I wouldn't have to worry about e-tests. I like those push button starters too.
I've thought about adding and updating some switches in my car and think it would be cool to use something like this for the panel http://www.aeronorthwest.com/controls.htm
