I'll see if I can take a few pics tonite. I have a loop over the top of the frame and just under the motor mount. -12 line to the pump, -12 line up to the remote filter, -10 back to the block. The few times I thought I lost prime was when it sat for a winter and cranking the starter wasn't bringing it up. Now I'm just in the habit of disconnecting the -12 line from the pump up to the filter, back feed a little oil, hook it back up and it will pick up prime right away. Also, after talking to the guys that maintain the Petty Driving Experience cars, I now crank the engine over until pressure comes up before I hit the ignition switch. Perry
Thanks Perry, I would appreciate pictures. I also have a -12 to the pump. When you thought you lost the prime was it only after it sat for the winter? Is it because your loop is below the pump? Thanks for your help.
Yes, it was only after sitting for a few months. I've never had a problem otherwise as it comes up immediatly when it's started. Does anyone know who the inovator of this system is? Here are some pics:
look like the Duttweiller oiling system we use on Stage II V6 motors with no internal oil pickup gallery along the pan rail. External pickup feed stock location pump with a billet block on it that does all the routing which goes to an external filter and then to a port plumbed into the block.
Gary, to answer your original question, the System 1 is delivered with a 45 micron screen, but they do (or did) offer replacement screens with other ratings (we run a 30) ...10 or so if used for fuel filtration. Hope this helps.Jay
Oil Pan Hey Perry, how you been? Question, is that a Steffs pan, or is that one of my early prototypes? If it is mine it must be a fairly early one because I haven't used a large radius on the sump like that in many years. Just curious. Steve
Hi Steve: Things are going well, albeit a bit hectic. Three kids in four years will do that to you. I'm slowly making my way back out to the garage and starting/completing some projects. The wagon is running again, and the gold car is coming apart soon for some much needed updating. (BTW, I need to talk to you about a few things) As always, too many things to do and to little time. That pan is believed to be the first Stefs pan ever done. (Before you were doing them). A few of us will be at the Grove Sat. night if you have nothing to do. S/B a great night of racing. Regards, PC
Gary, I went back to my notes and located the original paperwork on the System 1 (purchased 1989) and it was delivered with a 60 micron mesh screen with optional mesh sizes of 75, 45 ,30, & 10 available. Sorry for any confusion. Jay
Busy Hey Perry, glad to hear all is well. That front sump looks huge! I can tell by the last picture that it's not my pan. I won't make the Grove Saturday, because this weekend is our local cruise and car show up here in Manitowoc. I'm not much into the car show thing anymore, but I need to show my face and car Saturday night and Sunday. I do need to get back to the Grove soon though, before the summer is gone! Give me a call if you need anything! Take care, Steve
Perry, Thanks for the last picture. That's the one that says it all. I looked on AM&P's web site and that looks like how they had theirs. Thanks again and I hope this finally takes care of my oiling issues.
