I have a 212 in my 455. Anyone else using this cam? Did you advance it 4 degrees or go straight up? I did mine 4 degrees. Car not as fast as it should be (still working of carb issues, though).
    Thanx.

My buddy runs this cam in a couple of his cars. He has it in his 69 Sportwagon 400. It has a stock motor minus the cam and it runs mid 14's with 3.42 gears.

He also has it in his 68 GS 400 convert. That car ran a 12.7 with a 455 (76 block, 70 cast pistons and 68 "big port" heads with mild home port work, KB headers, edelbrok intake). That car developed a rod knock this year so it didn't get run.

He degreed both cams straight up I believe. I have the same cam in the motor I'm putting together. Hopefully it will make its way in one of my cars this winter.

Yes, I just put the TA212 cam in my 462. Yes, it's advanced 4 degrees per TA Performance. I have 9.5 to 1 pistons. What compression ratio do you have? TA said the cam likes compression. I also had the heads ported, added a Performer intake and have headers.

I have just put the same cam in my 400. It was degreed according to TA's recommendations. I have experienced tuning problems at idle. See my post Engine Tuning in this forum. Compression ration: 10.5:1

Do you have an automatic transmission? What are your carburetion problems? Could be similar to mine.

Where do you have your timing set?

Engine runs awesum from about 1500 RPMs up.

    hello

I like the results Joe's friend got in the convert, I would be really happy with those. I installed mine as 4 degrees advanced. My cary is about 4000lb w/me. The motor is a stock 72, stock small valve/low compression heads/stock manifolds/2.25 duals/S-divider. I was wondering if I might have not get the desired results due to low compression. I have 3.42's w/a 200r4. Timing is right where TA suggested. I can't give any good info because I am dealing with carb and/or fuel pressure problems right now. The car feels so strong part throttle. Full throttle, nothing happens, all the way to 5000.
Thanx for the help all. I will address the fuel issues before Monday & hopefully be back on this soon.

I am running 14 BTDC. I am at 6300 feet and this engine pulls hard. Torque for days. Way more powerful than the stock 71 455 that was in the car. It idles fine but not much vacuum, about 12. The old motor got 17.

Add a little timing and see if she smooths out.

When I punch it and the secondaries kick in she just pulls. Since it's new I can't flog it yet. I don't want to wind her up yet.

This cam has some overlap so it bleeds off pressure.

8.5 to 1 is a little low for compression. That's what my old motor was. TA says at least 9 to 1.

I had to add bigger jets to the quadrajet, since the new combo was running lean.

My buddy is also running a 3000 stall converter and a 3.90 posi in his 68 convert. The car is going through a rebuild and its just in primer right now (with flames...of course) and doesn't have much of what makes a convertible heavy. I think he said it weighed 3300 lbs. The 69 sportwagon weighs 4500 without him in it.
